The Lighthouse, Devonport

The Lighthouse near the mouth of the Mersey River in Devonport, Tasmania helps guide The Spirit of Tasmania and a few freight ships into the river to berth.  The lighthouse is built on a stone base and is made of bricks, was built in 1889.

Yesterday we drove north west up to Devonport just 100km from home, my parents are buried in the lawn cemetery there and we visited putting flowers on their graves.

The area the photos were taken yesterday is known as 'The Hat'.

  1. I like to see and visit lighthouses. It does not happen often.
    Take care.

    1. There are quite a few lighhouses on this Island but that's expected being an Island so often see one when close to the sea in certain areas.

  2. Thank you for showing us the lighthouse - striped like a barber's pole. I hope that your visit to the cemetery was peaceful and lovely. Sadly my friend who lives in Devonport is likely to join your parents very soon.

It's beautiful there, well kept and clean.
Yes the lighhouse is good, 3 stripes but I wasn't going down on the rocky surface at my age to take a photo of the 3 stripes :)

  5. It's a very stylish lighthouse and looks more modern than its age, I guess because of the way it is painted.

    1. Would have been a bit lonely there but not too bad as the city of Devonport is just down the hill.

    1. The stripes sure do, makes the lighthouse so much more colourful against the sea and blue sky.

  15. I was curious about the red stripes on the side of the lighthouse. Is there a special reason or is just a decorative touch?

    1. As far as I'm aware, just something different to brighten and make a colourful lighthouse :)
