Esk Caravan park, Queensland

The caravan park at Esk was lovely.  It was nearly empty when we arrived and by nightfall it was nearly full and was so full the next day.  People just came from everywhere to spend the weekend.
We were parked underneath a huge tree which we were thankful for due to the heat on a winters day.
In the evening time people started to gather in their groups in the camp kitchen and we wondered why - oh yes, entertainment by a wonderful group of singers - we did enjoy the tunes and their voices, they were good and came from Brisbane to perform their concert. They sang good pop songs, ones we knew and that makes a difference, they were not country either.
We didn't need to wander over to the camp kitchen because we could hear and see them so well...thoroughly enjoyed.

Esk, Queensland

Stayed at Esk inland from the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane for 3 nights in winter 2019.
There is about 1,700 people living in this coutry town.
Esk is named after the Esk River in Scotland and England.
There is limited shopping in Esk, however, there is a small Supermarket, Coffee Shop, Take a way, Petrol, Swimming Pool, and a few other shops to get you by without going to a larger town for supplies.
We have often gone through Esk in our travels but never stayed there till winter 2019.
When our youngest son his ex-wife and their children lived on the Sunshine Coast (6 years), (they live in Tasmania now) we always went through Esk as it was quicker. (This son lives with us now and our home his children's second home).

Photos are of part of the town which I took one very hot morning, it was just over 40 deg C, (104 F).
Coming from a temperature of about 24 degC to that heat was rather exhausting.  We mostly stayed under the awing which was under a big tree at the caravan park.

It's not often you see a ceiling like that these days.

Esk, Queensland

Youngest son, his wife and their 3 little ones have moved into their own home after 3 and 1/2 months.
My late dads house sold in 3 days, the new owners have moved in - so that is the end of that!
It's a relief to have that all over. (the house I mean)


On our way home on our holiday we came through a town called Esk in Queensland. Esk is named after the Esk River in Scotland and England.  The population is approximately 1,800 people.  The country is flat and the little town is not that far from the Somerset Dam as the crow flies.

Esk was established due to a short lived Copper mine, settlers came in 1840.  The Post Office opened in 1874.  A Lutheran Church was opened in 1941. There is a school as well as a War Memorial.

 Just south of Esk we came across some crops growing.  The 2 below photos were taken from the car traveling at 110km per hour.
