Airlie Beach, Queensland.

Airlie Beach is the Heart of the Reef and it's in the Tropics of Australia. Population is just over 1,200 people and it swells in the tourist season.
The beach area is popular with tourist many young ones for it's climate and the beach which is rather nice.
Last year when there I took lovely photos of the beach but can't find them - seems I've deleted them accidentally!  Oh well, never mind.
The main shopping area of Airlie Beach is at Cannonvale a few klm before you get to Airlie Beach.

A few accommodation places, there are many more.

The main beach which is very nice with palm trees, places to sit and have a barbecue and so on..

Below is another little beach just around the corner from the first beach.

Beach houses in the Tropics

Holiday 2017 in the tropics of Australia and we travelled to a few beach areas, these are some of the beach houses.

Peaceful is Airlie Beach, no where to park so taken as we drove past.

Below - you can see the leaves have been stripped of the trees on the hill in the cyclone that was in 2017.

Airlie Beach, Queensland

A cyclone called Debbie hit Airlie Beach in Queensland in March 2017. The place below is a little on from Airlie Beach where one catches the ferry or ferries to various islands in the Whitsunday Group of islands.
We visited this area is 2016, and last year 2017 and saw such difference, buildings, pontoons and wharf's missing.
The first photo is as normal before the cyclone a 2016 photo.
As you scroll down the photos you will see things missing and apparently is mostly an insurance holdup as to why not all has been replaced.
You will also notice how the leaves have been taken off some of the palms and on that island.

Down on the waterfront these two photos are of the same building where one books to go on a cruise or to the islands.

It's not often you see a boat parked on the side of the road!  Men were working on it so we presume it was taken there by the cyclone.

A trip to Airlie Beach, Queensland

Last winter whilst staying in Bowen we took a day trip to Airlie Beach to look around.
The beach is rather small the shops were very busy selling touristy items, of course at a high price.
View from the few hills is lovely looking over the sea and it's a popular place to live with approx. 7, 900 people swelling of course in the winter time.

Just on from the town Airlie Beach is the place where you can catch a ferry to the Whitsunday Islands which are resorts and apparently very nice.

There's a large parking area on a hill further up the road where one can catch the ferry to the Islands.
