Last winter whilst staying in Bowen we took a day trip to Airlie Beach to look around.
The beach is rather small the shops were very busy selling touristy items, of course at a high price.
View from the few hills is lovely looking over the sea and it's a popular place to live with approx. 7, 900 people swelling of course in the winter time.
Just on from the town Airlie Beach is the place where you can catch a ferry to the Whitsunday Islands which are resorts and apparently very nice.
There's a large parking area on a hill further up the road where one can catch the ferry to the Islands.
Hello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures!! What a wonderful place.
So amazing this wonderful waterfront views. Beautiful also the jetty for the boats.
Best regards,
Marco
Thanks Marco. Great view certainly from those places.
DeleteWhat a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteIt's not bad, but not my favourite, then I don't have a favourite place other than home.
DeleteWhat a great setting and so many apartments with views.
ReplyDeleteI think every house has a view when you drive in the area where they are.
Deletewow the hill looks great
ReplyDeleteHave to be a mountain goat to get up there Gosia :)
DeleteEven the ferry docking areas are pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love the homes on the hill, all looking over the ocean.
Little boxes on the hillside...and they all look just the same. Remember that song?
Oh yes I do remember that song, and I love it :)
DeleteSuch lovely photos of what looks like a lovely place
ReplyDeleteIt's an ok place, people rave about it but I don't.
DeleteWhat memories your photos are bringing back. In my younger years I worked on Daydream Island and Airlie beach was the closest town on the mainland.
ReplyDeleteOh really - you have been about a bit then :)
DeleteIt is really pretty. I suspect the 'year rounders' get a bit sick of winter visitors though.
ReplyDeleteI should imagine so, but the winter people keep the town going.
Deletegorgeous pictures.. last picture has similarities with the places near my home... Though my home is on a flat valley, but the nearby hills are very similar kind..
ReplyDeleteAmazing how one can always find something similar to where they live or the country they live in - it's good really.
DeleteGreat spot - Airlie Beach.
ReplyDeleteI suspect many of those hill apartments are holiday rentals on an all year
long basis - one holiday group in after another. I bet the place is full of rental offices????
Had a wonderful holiday there at South Molle in the 90's.
Cheers
Colin
Gets a bit crowded in winter these days Colin. Streets are bustling with tourists. Hard to get parked, the local must get annoyed in the busy season.
DeleteYes, I expect they are holiday rentals with a view.
What a wonderful view. Small wonder the houses are perched on the hill.
ReplyDeleteHoliday rentals most of them Martin.
DeleteAnother spot I visited often. A friend used to be the front office manager at the Coral Sea Resort...and her guy was the commodore at the Airlie Beach Yacht Club aka Whitsunday Sailing Club.
ReplyDeleteI've had some good, fun times at Airlie Beach...and quite a few Margaritas, too! :)
Shute Harbour is the take off point to most of the surrounding islands.
The area all around there copped a bashing from Cyclone Debbie. She showed no mercy, unfortunately.
Couldn't think of Shute Harbour for the life of me when doing the post :).
DeleteGood memories for you...
:) I thought that was the case, Margaret...that's why I gave the name! I'm a mind-reader in my spare time! lol
DeleteI love the sea, to look at. And, the houses on the hills, are special.
ReplyDeleteSea forever changes as do the mountains.
DeleteLovely to find your blog and enjoy your photos from your part of the world! So different from ours in Northern Ireland!
ReplyDeleteThe coast and resorts there are quite exotic looking to me!
Looking forward to following!

Thanks Christine, will wander over to your blog :)
DeleteVery good views of the pier, and of the houses of the hill, from the parking lots.
ReplyDeleteKisses
Great views.
Deletelovely beach my friend!
ReplyDeletei can imagine how stunning it would look from hills though.
here too hill stations are other popular visiting areas have same problems that all touristy items are sold at very high prices ,
i found these photos beautiful ,last one is very interesting
I suppose it's the same everywhere where tourist things are sold, all too expensive.
DeleteSuch a pretty area. So pristine. Love these photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mildred.
DeleteIt looks like a tropical paradise.
ReplyDeleteI expect it is to many Sandra.
DeleteI was there a few years ago lovely place but prone to cyclones.
ReplyDeleteMerle.........
Oh yes Merle certainly is just like the one they just had.
DeleteHope you are keeping well and enjoying those twins.
hi Margaret, i hope you are well. thanks for sharing some lovely photos. it looks like a nice place to visit. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.
DeleteHope you are well.
Ok here thanks.
