Murals

Sheffield murals which there are plenty with a mural festival later this year.  Artists come from various areas of Tasmania and mainland Australia to paint. These murals I've never photographed or shown before.
These murals are just a few in a parking area just before you come to the town.

Murals in Sheffield, Tasmania

We headed to a rural town called Sheffield which is nestled under Mt. Roland with farmland around.
Shefflied is known as the Town of Murals which was inspired by the story of Chemainus a small Canadian town.

The first town mural was painted in Sheffield in December 1986. Since then over 60 murals depicting the area's rich history and beautiful natural scenery are painted on walls scattered throughout the town and buildings along the roadside. The murals attract an estimated 200,000 people to the town annually but of course not last year or this year.

The International Mural Fest art competition has been held annually since 2003 and returns in April each year. A poem is selected which the artists use as their inspiration. After each competition the 9 finalist murals remain on display at Mural Park for approximately 12 months until the next competition.

The photos are just a few.

The dots on the map is where we went on this past holiday.

Mural at Barraba, NSW

The Mural below at Barraba NSW was done by Fintan Magee who's art is to admired. There is also another link to Fintan's work here
Andrew often does a Mural Monday, here.

Finan says, "Mural depicts a local water diviner searching for ground water, using a y-shaped twig or rod or two L-shaped ones.  Diviners study the landscape of a farm and walk over aras where they suspect the water may be located, ground minerals and magnetic forces force the sticks to cross or be pushed downwards when water is located.  Despite many studies claiming the technique is pseudo-science.  Diviners continue to be used throughout Australia as way of finding ground water."
Taken from Finan Magee Facebooks page.

After taking the photo we continued up the road toward Warialda, NSW stopping a few klm from the nights stop to have a walk about as one does get a bit stiff sitting for a fair while.
The photos are taken of the rest stop showing how dry the area is.
Even cacti will survive though sometimes, we did however see many of them dying.

The town.

The Larrikin Hotel in Bowen, Queensland.
Was looking for some history on this hotel, couldn't find any but I believe the meals are good there.

Buildings in Townsville, Queenland

Went window shopping in several areas of Townsville, Queensland and what a surprise when we came across a picture to hang on your wall of home :) Just had to take a photo!

A shopping complex which wasn't that large compared to others we had seen.  Just two stories so we parked on the roof.

In the city a few buildings.

Sheffield, Tasmania

Travelling further along the road we came to Sheffield inland from Devonport.  It nestles itself under Mt. Roland with farmland around.

Walking through the town I took photos of some of the murals.
