Westbury is another lovely small town in mid north western Tasmania just 30 km from home with about 2,000 people.
My husband's paternal grandmother was born in Westbury 1898. B has a cousin living in Westbury with her husband was his mother's side of the family - yes mixed up :) Wednesday we visited them for the afternoon, always good to catch up with a relation and friends. Cousin married our best friend of 50 odd years and she met him first at our house :) He married her later in his life.
Another cousin on my husbands mother's side of the family owns the local Take a Way Shop, his father once was the Mayor of Westbury.
A new prison is to be build not too far from Westbury and a lot of locals are not happy about it, the others think it's a good idea.
A lot of Irish settlers settled in Westbury in the 1800's both free and convicts given their pardon.
Each year on St. Patrick's day Westbury has celebrations on the Village Green.
There are several Churches in Westbury and I took a photo of one of them which is opposite the Village Green. The Hotel is the first photo followed by the Church and another which is now a home but still looks like a Church. A home on the corner then the RSL Club building (Returned Serviceman League) but of course the building was something else prior to the RSL obtaining the building.
