A Birthday

It was our youngest Grandchild's Birthday on the 27th October.  Master Z was 8 years old, he is pictured here at his house with his mum our daughter in law.  I must say the birthday cake was ever so tasty.  Eldest son took the photo of his wife and son.

The video was taken at Tail Race Park where we used to have many birthday parties when the children were younger, grandchildren that is.  It's by the Tamar River on the other side of town, has a play area for the children, barbecues under cover, and a good walking track.

We went out to dinner Friday night and had to meet my husbands two sisters and one husband.   We parked the vehicle went inside the restaurant Steve's Grill said who we were but no table booked under the name, husband looked at message on his phone only to discover he had the wrong night, wasn't Friday night as he thought it was Saturday night. We apologized headed to the vehicle and it was raining so we sat in it and said, 'what are we going to do now'. We headed back to Steve's Grill and had a meal.  Scallops, chips and salad, you can see that I have half eaten my meal as there were 12 scallops.  Yes, we went there again last night (Saturday) met the husbands family ate and got home about 1am in the morning after visiting eldest sister in law for the remainder of the evening.

Down in the Bush

Often we go for a drive into the bush just to see what is there or go a different way to some place, often we have to turn around and come back because we come across a gate that is locked in that bush.
The roads are often logging roads which means trucks go into or have been in the past to collect logs and taken them to be chipped at a mill somewhere within this State of Tasmania, Australia.  Wood chipping isn't a big thing these days and usually the logs are from trees planted some years ago.
The photos below are from one of our trips into the bush...
The first photo is of 'Man Ferns', (Dicksonia Antarctica).
The last photo some pretty foxgloves (Digitalis)

More water

If anyone is interested  -
My Ethnicity DNA is 62.8% Irish, Scottish and Welsh.
36% Scandinavian.
1.2% Greek and South Italian.

The most surprising was Scandinavian, Greek and South Italian.  It seems I have cousins living all of this world - just amazing.

A few more photos of the risen waters in the Tamar River here in Launceston, Tasmania Australia.

The photo above shows the toilets where the water level has risen to.
The photo below is of the swimming pool and the basin, in the 2nd photo you can only see water.

Floods

Interesting to note whilst doing a direct branch of my family tree I discovered that part of my heritage is French - well I never!  Getting the DNA done in Texas, USA, results soon.

Down to business regarding the floods we have had here in the Northern area and North Western area of the Island.  A few people lost their homes but of course these floods were not as bad as the floods in the State of Victoria, Australia.  Where we live it rained but seeing as we live on a hill we were ok, no water even under the house but that's the way it's always been.

I've a few photos and video which I took this past week. Video yes I have some but the one I'm showing today was put together by someone, thought it was done well so hence sharing.  I did a post on the Trevallyn Dam recently showing a video, well this video below has much more water going over it and it's a video of various places within the Launceston area. 2 minutes and 8 second.

This is on the other side of where I live in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia and it's mostly farmland that has flooded.

The Circus was in town and they nearly got flooded but were spared.  You can see the top of the big tent.  Dirty water in the middle of the photo rushing/gushing down to the Tamar River from the Cataract Gorge.

The Tamar

The Rosevears, Hotel over looking the Tamar River, they apparently have a good meal.
Not sure how the video will be as it's not landscape.

Evening out.

The other Friday evening we went and had dinner at Grindelwald about 20 minutes from home.
There is a restaurant and shops within the area below.
The meal was delicious and there were four cousins and partners, just a nice gathering.
First photo was when we arrived the remainder as we came out of the restaurant.  The time is wrong on the clock.

Tulip time

It's Tulip time once again here in Tasmania, Australia.  On the top of Table Cape along the North West Coast of Tasmania it's all happening.  A grower grows all the tulips and the farm is open to the public for viewing from October till blooming finishes.

Lake Trevallyn

The Trevallyn Lake is part of the South Esk River here in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.

It's a good place for rowing, kayaking,  and fishing so I believe.
A few more wattle photos overlooking the Lake.

Along the Tamar

A drive the other day down to the Tamar River here in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.  It was a beautiful Spring Day and the water was calm.
There is a Hotel in a place called Rosevears over looking the Tamar River excellent meals I believe and many people gather to eat there.  Picnic tables across from the Hotel and you can catch a ferry and go for a little ride on the river.
Many years ago my husband and myself along with another couple water skied in this area. In those days I didn't have a camera!
