The Gorge, Launceston

Saturday afternoon youngest son who lives at home here with us took 2 of his 3 children for a walk up the Gorge which is about 15 minutes from home and about 10 minutes from the city of Launceston.
He went up the zig zag track there being two tracks on each side of the Gorge.  Photos are from his phone as I asked him to take some.
The cottage is inside the gate and was once used by a caretaker.  There was a small fee many years ago to enter the Gorge from this way which was the only way, once.

Taken from the zig zag track looking over to the much easier side of the Gorge to walk.

The suspenion Bridge over the 'Basin' a swimming place and of course there are peacocks within the grounds.

    1. We are very lucky to have it Rosemary, and there are two restaurants, a chair lift and a free swimming pool as well as the basin to swim in plus lovely green lawns..

  4. Very rugged. I think I'd be a little nervous living in that house...the house would be okay, but where it is placed would have me concerned a bit.

The beauty of the peacock...stunning birds. :

    1. That house has been there for many years and is I should image very stable built on the rocks and a bit of ground at the back of it.

  5. The city would not have the appeal it has without the wonderful gorge. I have managed to capture a peacock in display there, but not the last time.

    1. The Gorge is an attraction for sure, makes the city more interesting.
I've been there many times in the past and only managed to capture the peacocks two times. Son often goes up there for a walk, has fads.

  9. What a beautiful view in this canyon. You're lucky you live not far from this beautiful location that can be visited frequently to refresh your mind.

  10. Hi Margaret: We visited The Gorge during our visit to Tasmania and enjoyed it very much, so thanks for bringing me this great recollection. We had a coffee at the foot of a little funicular rail that goes from one level to another, and met a family of fellow Canadians there who had taken two years off and were travelling around the world. They had recently arrived from Japan if my memory serves me correctly.

If I had walked up the Gorge the peacocks wouldn't have their plumes out :)
