Echuca, Victoria

From Wodonga we drove across to Echuca through farmland, a beautiful drive for the day.
Echuca is a town on the banks of the Murray River and Campaspe River in Victoria.  The border town of Moama is adjacent on the northern side of the Murray River in NSW.
Echuca is the administrative centre for the area.  Population is about 15,000 people and combined with Moama just over 21,000 people.

Echuca is a popular tourist place, you can catch a paddle steamer to go for a cruise up the Murray River, unfortunately these days you can't get to see a paddle steamer from the banks.

The photos are of a small part of the Murray River which is rather dirty and you can see the level of water is down.

  3. What a beautiful place. Lots to do there if a person is interested, I'd rent a canoe for a few hours and paddle around.

  4. That water level was way down. I hope it has recovered (at least a bit). I would love to go on a paddle boat. Some day...

    1. The water level is low in the photos, was rather surprised to see that way, but then there was a drought on.
We've had several friends go on a paddle steamer cruise and enjoyed it.

    1. Unusual name is Ecucha, always have trouble spelling it :)
That river goes a very long way and is classed as the border between Victoria and New South Wales (NSW)

  8. I like that last picture-- the way the eucalyptus trees look etched into the landscape.

  9. The water level wasn't particularly low when we were there a number of years ago but I was amazed at the different wharf levels, built to cater for different river heights. The highest was amazingly high and it was hard to imagine the river being that high, but obviously it must have been so at times.

    1. Different areas have different heights, you are correct on that.
The water level didn't look good when we were there.

  13. The water levels do seem pretty low. Was there still sufficient depth for navigation by the paddle steamer?

  15. The water level of the river looks far better than I expected to see.
Should be way up again after the rains of the last couple of months.
Echuca is a very friendly town and there sure is plenty of see/visit in this region of the Murray River.
