Parks has about 14,600 people in it's area. Parkes has a 'Dish' which is a Radio Telescope that's was assisted NASA in the past.
When the late Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon in 1969 it was this telescope that broadcast the happening around the world.
This is an old photo of the 'Dish' taken in 2013.
Population in 2018 was 11,224 people.
Photo of some of the Cabins in the Caravan Park in Parkes where we stayed.
We stayed in one of these cabins years ago, it was freezing and have never stopped in a cabin since, always in a Motel/Hotel in our travels if we didn't take our caravan.
On top of a hill over looking the town is this War Memorial.
We drove around the streets so was able to take photos of some houses.
North West of Parkes NSW there is a little town called Trundle which is a cattle area, water was extremely short in the district and water was being carted by tankers to the area at a high cost.
¡Todo un lujo!
ReplyDeleteAbrazos, Margaret.
Oh, ok :) Jordi.
DeleteBeautiful photos, impressive war memorial.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill, a really lovely war memorial up on the hill there.
DeleteI lived and worked in Parkes for a while. Indeed we bought our first home there (not one that you featured).
ReplyDeleteOh did you now, that's interesting. Would have been odd if I had taken the house you lived in :)
Besos
Most houses in country towns are built on a block of land that belongs to the owner who buys the land then builds a house on it - husband and wife, then of course they usually have children, so one family home with a front yard and a back yard as is our home where we live :)
DeleteSchöne Bilder von den Häusern und ein beeindruckendes Kriegerdenkmal.
ReplyDeleteGruß
Noke
Thanks Noke, it's a beautiful War Memorial.
DeleteOlá querida Margaret!

Sorrisos de luz.😊
Megy Maia🌈
Thanks Megy and it might be the only we can travel for awhile yet.
DeleteSuper post Margaret! It was lovely to see all these houses and that beautiful memorial. Thank you for adding the map also and enjoyed the history about that huge radio telescope and its very interesting history.
ReplyDeleteSometimes if I think of it I add a map otherwise most people wouldn't have a clue where I was talking about in Australia.
DeleteThanks.
The black and white photo of the dish is brilliant and its a very impressive war memorial. The second last house has an interesting stair entrance. We stayed in a cabin in Adelaide mid winter and while the weather was nice, it was quite cold and the air con took hours to heat up the cabin. We left it on 24/7 for the days we stayed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew. Have several photos of the dish but I too like the one I've shown.
DeleteIt is a good stairway to the house that one, it's certainly rather different.
Was it one of those small square A/C? if so they are a bit hopeless but better than nothing at all.
No, a split system. It was pumping out the heat but the cabin just would not warm up. I think it had very poor or no insulation.
DeleteBeen year since I have been to Parkes, side note mey mum was born in Parkes
ReplyDeleteOh was she Jo-Anne...nice place.
DeleteLovely houses of different styles in Parkes. We spent a few hours looking around the observatory there which was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteYes Rosie it's a nice visit at the observatory, been there several times over the years as most people go there when travellers, certainly worth the visit.
Delete:)
ReplyDeleteI love that second house! And that dish is amazing. We (mankind) did some amazing things 50 years ago
ReplyDeleteThe good old day back then :)
DeleteThat house is nice, they all are ok as they are somebody's home.
Hello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures. Great to see the wonderful houses.
Greetings, Marco
They are lovely homes.
DeleteWe have stayed in cabins quite frequently, and have enjoyed them for the most part. Naturally, we have stayed in hotel and motels too, especially when laying over at an airport, but we have had a variety of experiences. We stayed in one where the bulk of the other guests were children taking part in a hockey tournament, with their parents. Not to be recommended!
ReplyDeleteWell that would have been a noisy affair then..oh gosh.
Deletethe War Memorial is impressive.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful houses, I especially liked the 2nd.
Hugs and all the best for you
Thanks Maria..
