The statue of the Jockey and Gunsynd are down near the Bridge which is the border between Queensland and New South Wales (NSW).
Goondiwindi Custom House and Museum.
Victoria Hotel started life in Queen Victoria's Day. To read the history you can go here.
I love stories of race horses and how they are honored. When I was a child I cheered for the horse Native Dancer, who ran in the Kentucky Derby. I grew up reading the Black Stallion books and the Misty of Chincoteague books. Did you read them?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I've never read the series of books, I was probably doing ballet and other types of dancing at that time, plus piano and school homework and never got around to reading them.
DeleteHorses are beautiful graceful creatures.
Deu ser un lloc molt interessant, Margaret, Les imatges així ens ho demostren.
ReplyDeleteUna abraçada.
Thanks Jordi.
DeleteIt is a wonderful country town.
Buena estatua en reconocimientos de las proezas de ese caballo.
ReplyDeleteBesos
Lovely statue. Many country towns in Australia don't have things to brag about and when they do, they do it well :)
DeleteIt must be a very interesting place.
ReplyDeleteI liked the hotel building, it is very beautiful.
Take care and keep safe
Thanks Maria.
DeleteYou too.
Gunsynd is long gone, but still remembered fondly.

Muy bella serie de imagenes, amiga
ReplyDeleteThanks you :)
DeleteOn the day of Gunsynd's final bow...at Brisbane's Doomben Racecourse...it was an honour lap to celebrate the champion's racing life..not a race...I got to pat him on the nose and chat with him. Upon having the film in my camera developed, I discovered the man standing in the photo with me...with whom I'd had a rather lengthy, amicable chat...was none other than T. J. Smith...father of well-known trainer, Gai Waterhouse!
ReplyDeleteWell fancy that, you never know who you will see in a photo.
DeleteThat was nice to have a chat with Gunsynd, something I'm sure many would have loved to have done.
There is something nice about seeing a white picket fence!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
There is and often you get a nice garden behind it.
