Beyond Arthur River

First photo is the mouth of the Arthur River  Tasmania Australia, looking towards the Southern Ocean.
The next lot of photos is the terrain on the way back to the caravan park - such wilderness and lonesome road.

The Arthur River.  There is a bridge which isn't very wide but wide enough, no footpath so I had to be careful that no traffic was coming - Murphy's Law one did come.  The little hut or shelter is a rest area by the river for the traveller to get out and walk around if they wish and there are picnic tables within as well. Sword ferns in the photo above which readily grow on the side of the road and in the bush.  You are not permitted to take these ferns.

  1. Nice river view in the first photo. I like that they have a place and a table for travelers who wished to stop for rest or a picnic. Very nice and quiet.

    1. We forgot that that shelter was there when driving past, so husband reversed the vehicle so I could get out and take photos.

  3. That is one of the most picturesque rest stops I have seen. They are often just pull offs on the highway here - albeit pull offs with picnic tables and sometimes very welcome facilities.

    1. Yes I'm familiar with pull offs many of them on the mainland in certain areas. We have a few pretty ones here on the Island.

  4. The river level seems a bit on the low side. It's a great little picnic hut.

    1. Was thinking it would be better when the rain water flows down the river but then the water would cover the rocks I guess.
Nice for a picnic there and listen to nature.

  5. Photos 1 and 2 just show how desolate that southern part of Tassie is.
I guess the winds (roaring forties) are the reason for the area being treeless.
Good report and photos as always.
    Cheers

    1. Colin it's the north west coast, on the map you will see Temma, it's inland on that highway.
Can be very windy at the Great Southern Ocean. I can remember that once it was the Indian Ocean then became the Great Southern Ocean, maps of today say a little different.

  8. Desolate in one spot, but with ferns and trees galore in another spot. The rest stop looks like it's built for rainy weather. Another enjoyable post.
