The day we left for a long holiday in July 2019

We finished packing the caravan, checked everything again and hoping to luck we didn't leave anything behind.
Time to leave for the ship to sail from Devonport, Tasmania to Melbourne, Victoria and we arrived in Devonport 2 hours before sailing.
The first photo is the first view of The Spirit of Tasmania as we wait in line to get checked in.

2nd photo shows going into the ship and you can see on the left of the motorhome the cars parked in the hull.

The next two were taking from the 7th deck of the view of Devonport, then our inside cabin.
We always sail at night then in the early morning we can be on our way up the highway.
This sail we were 2nd of the ship.

The last 3 photos we are on our way up the highway in Melbourne, Victoria.

Well of course you can't go by car across the sea - but that's how Google maps shows it!

  2. I kind of wonder how pleasant or not it would be to sleep in a boat. I've never done it.

    1. For us it's pleasant Adam, own en-suite and only us (2 people) with sole occupancy of the cabin, that's how the cabins are booked. Smooth sail mostly, best way to describe it if it's a smooth sailing, think of being in a vehicle on a smooth road, same as that, if the sea is a bit rough so it the road. Stabilisers on the side of the ship to keep it rocking from side to side, they work very well so therefore you don't rock side to side. It can get rough but to us that's no big deal. So many people just have fear of sailing and some feel ill at just the thought of it.

    1. Was calm when I went out on the deck to take them, though a little cold but hardly any breeze.

    1. Thanks Bill,
Yes, being on the ship is a holiday in itself - there is entertainment, lounges, reading room and so on...mini cruise ship in a way.

  5. Nunca he dormido en un barco. Más de una vez he pensado hacer un crucero, aunque al final no me decido nunca.

Me gustan mucho las fotos con luz nocturna.

  8. Raining at last in outback NSW and QLD.
Love the antics of the locals..........gone 'bananas" or like
    wild Banshees.
Maybe the rain was holding off till you and Shanks got home???
    Now for some good follow-up.
I think some of your upcoming photos will truly show how bad this drought has been and still is in many areas.
I just hope city slickers take note......our rural cousins need all our help.

    1. Heard about the rain in only some areas Colin. Wonderful, Gold is rain out there. Could well have been holding off till we returned home, not much rain on our trip at all and of course many places hadn't seen rain for 7 years.
