Up in the hills

Kuranda in Queensland is not that far from Cairns, about 25 klm or 16 mile.  It's a windy picturesque drive in the rainforest.  The town is near the Barron Falls and Kuranda has a couple big markets which operate every day.
There is a service station just a little out of the town and they had the best fish and chips I had tasted so far on our holiday in winter 2016.

I took a few photos of the small town, the main street.

The Aboriginal Centre

A church in the main street.

Didgeridoos for sale.

Trees to keep you cool in the main street.

    1. Lots of nook and cranny's there. Lots of things to see up that way, it does get crowded when the bus loads come.

    1. A lovely little church Gosia, the light wasn't in the right place though when I took that photo.
Shade trees are a must up there as they are needed when shopping or just looking.

    1. Would be rather a dreary place up there without all that bright colour.

    1. Did you own one once, never had the desire to learn to play one, wouldn't have enough 'wind'!

  6. I remember catching the train up to Kuranda many years ago, and was struck by it's beauty.... and very touristy!

  7. Kurunda has some really great restaurants and the pub meal is excellent.
Unfortunately like all touristy places buying souvenirs is damn pricy, especially
the clothes. However to go to Cairns and then not take this trip, well words
fail me..........madness I think sums it all up!
Great photos as usual Margaret, you should be on commission!!!
    Cheers

Lots of wind required for the didgeridoo, I tried is once without success.

    1. Yes it does look like a ship and I'm not sure what the significance of it is.
