Peacock

Peacocks at the Gorge, Launceston, Tasmania.
The Gorge is only about 10 to 15 minutes away from the city, there is a chair lift, beautiful gardens, swimming pool, swinging bridge and a couple of restaurants.  The one I'm showing is rather lovely inside and out and the peacocks come to visit, can jump on the tables outside and demand a morsal of food.  Such beautiful birds.

  1. I am quite sure that peacocks have been introduced to every corner of the world.

    1. I reckon your would be correct as you would have seen many in your travels. I've looked online at many different coloured ones, it seems we only have the one colour here in Tasmania.

  2. Their feathers used to be my bookmarkers when I was an adolescent.

  4. One of our suburbs has a resident family of peacocks. Local families love them and have even put signs up on the streets.

  6. The brilliant colours and extravagant beauty of the peacock must be to attract the opposite sex. Otherwise why risk being attacked?

    1. Yes they fan the back area in the mating season, Hels. They are to be watched carefully at that time as they can get a bit toey. I've not heard of anyone getting attacked at the Gorge by a male peacock.

    1. Those peacocks can be a bit nosy at times, Andrew. There is a restaurant joining that building for evening meals, the one you are seeing is the afternoon tea area.

  8. How beautiful it is to see them with their tails outstretched. Although, we rarely see it that way.

    1. It's good to catch them with their plume out but we don't always down here either.

  9. Yep they are beautiful with the tail fanned out BUT they are garden destroyers,
roof ( tile) biters and the list goes on.
Still that is nature - so grin and bear it!
    Cheers

PS: Summer might come soon???????? More bloody rain here in Terrigal
and cold - not good for the summer tourist trade.

Yes, the peacock loves picking about, nosy creatures in my book.

It's delightful to hear about the peacocks visiting and interacting with the guests. These majestic birds certainly add a unique charm, especially with their habit of jumping on tables and seeking treats. Their vibrant plumage and elegant presence make any visit extra special.

  14. My mum loved peacocks but would never alow their feathers in the house, claimed they were bad luck. Some people did have large urn style vases with dried flowers and peacock feathers, they were quite the "thing" back in the 50s and 60s, but not seen these days.

    1. Wasn't aware of their bad luck status, R but your mum would know back in her day. I knew plenty of people who put the feathers in a big tall vase, always looked gorgeous.
