Bells Parade, Latrobe, Tasmania

Bell's Parade was named after Robert Bell, who with his half brother Henry Bentinck constructed a wharf and a store on the site in 1855 (gone now.) The Parade is situated on the Latrobe inlet of the Mersey River, Tasmania.  These grounds are wonderful to walk in and around, with barbecues, shelter and so on.

Queen Elizabeth 11 visited there in February 23, 1954 and had tea provided by member of the Latrobe Branch of the Country Women Association.
I remember the Queen's visit to Tasmania, just!

Map as to where Bells' Parade is, above it to the left is the city of Devonport.

    1. Thanks on all accounts Bill. Yes I remember the Queen's visit. There is a garden at Latrobe not far from the picnic area that's called 'The Queen's Garden'.

  3. Está bien acondicionado, con buenos bancos que facilita el descanso, después de una caminata y mesas y bancos al aire libre, para poder saciar el apetito en medio de la naturaleza.
Feliz fin de semana. Un abrazo.

  7. It would be such a nice place for a picnic. I can see a footbridge to cross the Mersey, but is there a ferry?

    1. No ferry there as it's only a small part of the Mersey Andrew. There is a ferry I believe in Devonport that takes you across the river but not sure if it operates in winter. We have had many a picnic there over the years, even when I was about 7 years old..lol, long time ago we lived in Burnie for about 3 years.

  12. I too remember the queen's 1954 visit, at least to Melbourne. She was slowly driven around the MCG in an open car and waved to 92,500 excited fans. I wonder if she would be so popular now, if she had lived long enough.

    1. Remember seeing photos of her when she visited Australia, my late mother was a Queen fan and was able to see her close up. Hard to say if more people would have turned up today if she had lived and visited - we will never know.

  16. So - a visit by Lizzie. Next you might get Tree-Hugger and Equine face.
I recall the first visit from Liz and Phil, My grandparents had their home all
covered with flags and flowers. The official car taking them to Concord
Hospital where veterans were treated for war related problems sped past
as if it was in the Monte Carlo rally.
Very upsets residents of that street.
    Cheers
    Colin
PS: Sunny here in Terrigal - OK when you are in the sun but we have had buckets of freezing rain. Beach patrol just look - no one in that water - ha ha.

    1. No, they won't come here now Colin.
Well, I suppose the Queen and Co were on a tight schedule but all the same those people would have been disappointed.
No sun out here today, just a gray Sunday as in weather.
