Signs

A few Signs coming through Mowbray a suburb of Launceston on the northern side. Continuing with signs near home the southern side.  All of these photos of signs were taken with my phone and whilst moving.

This building is something to do with some kind of Care for Children, can't recall exactly.

We only have two Hungry Jacks in Launceston.  KFC we only have two as well.

These signs are on a shop or in - the above is in Rivers a clothing shop. All these signs are not far from  home.

McDonald's is known as Maccas here in Australia.

BWS is a liquor store, Beer, Wine and Spirits and is owned by the Endeavour Group.  In 2019, Woothworths the supermarket people here in Australia, (nothing to do with USA or UK) restructured it's alcoholic drinks business to form Endeavour Group.  In June 2021, the Endeavour Group was listed as separate entity on the Australian Securities Exchange.  In Australia alcohol is not permitted to be sold at the supermarkets, any of them.

Up the top of the hill to the left is home.

  1. This is a different type of post than usual and very interesting. I really enjoyed it. Haven't gone to Maccas in ages. Haven't gone to a KFC in decades. Today is the day. Will buy a KFC dinner. :)

  2. Thanks for the tour. Interesting to see Maccas is open 24 hours. Haven't been to one of those in decades. Have a great day.

    1. That's good, we don't often have a meal from there, just once in a while for a change. Signs are colourful so we don't miss them I guess Angie.

  5. We have a Maccas quite close to home. Which I have never been to. Sadly the signs asking for courtesy and consideration seem to be everywhere now. It isn't sad that they are there, but it is sad that they are needed.

    1. We have Maccas once in while but neither of us are fans of it. It's a change from home cooking and that's about it.
It is sad that those 'courtesy and consideration' signs have to be put about these days, have seen several over the past few years EC.

    1. The latter signs are from my end of town, the Southern end, the first few are from the northern end, over the Tamar Bridge to the north.

    1. You are right Jo-Anne, having travelled within Australia you always see the signs from a distance in the larger towns as smaller towns don't have those signs.

  9. It's hard to imagine there would be much of a threat to staff in a Rivers store.

    1. Yes Andrew, hard to believe but it must happen otherwise the sign wouldn't be there - once there wasn't any signs like that one, you would remember.

  10. I find it curious that you can't sell alcoholic beverages in supermarkets. I assume there will be special places for it.

    1. I would be the opposite to you, if I saw alcohol being sold in our supermarkets it would be very strange for me. Yes, there are many places to buy alcohol, special stores/shops often they are attached to Hotels but not all of them.

  11. The liquor areas here in Terrigal are right next to either Coles or W/worths
and you can get your supplies and then walk straight into the store.
    No big deal.
I have been to Mac Donalds once in my life and that was once too many - YUCK!
I have never heard of Shiploads.
    Interesting post.
Miserable wet day here - and NO fires.
What do you think of that 13 year old girl fire lighter and the shocking
results of her damnable efforts. Looks like the book has been thrown at her
    by the authorities.
    Cheers

    1. Well that's handy being next door, we found that when we travelled within Australia but of course it depends if there is land to build on to do that.
Maccas is not very nice but we have it once in awhile, gives me a rest from cooking for the family all the time.
Pleased there are NO fires as they really are a worry as are floods.
Never heard about the 13 year old, must Google it Colin.

  12. Interesting to see all these signs. But I couldn't place where I went when I was in Hobart earlier in the year. I mainly stayed in a hotel in the city.

    1. Well Maccas and some eating places are not always within the city itself. Sometimes there might be a Maccas or signs we are familiar with on the highway/roads, if on holiday in Hobart one wouldn't see these signs unless you hired a vehicles and travelled around different areas.

Well that's good you don't go, many people don't and many people do...I personally prefer to eat something more healthier.

  16. That was very enjoyable Margaret! Fun that McDonalds is called Maccas in Australia. I also wholly approve of the 'respect' sign on the door. No excuse for those with short fuses treating the hard-working people behind the counter so badly. We go to a fastfood restaurant at least once a week, usually when out running errands. We always go to different ones and go to Maccas (love it) once a month.

    1. I'm pleased you liked my post Denise. Always called Maccas here as Australian love to shorten names for some weird reason.
      Enjoy your outings.

  19. Hungry Jacks? That and several others are new to me. It is interesting to see signs from other countries. Isn't it a same when we have to post signs telling customers to treat the workers with respect? We have the same issue here.

    1. From memory Hungry Jacks is called Burger King in the US and Canada.
It's not good with signs having to tell customers to respect workers in their shops, kind of makes me wonder what the future holds in years to come.

  20. A nice collection of signs. Kind of sad they need a sign asking people not to be verbally abusive. Seems like common sense to me!
