Ross is such a gorgeous town in my book, it has a lot of history attached to it, was settled in 1821.
Ross developed as a base for the local garrison and became a centre for trade for the surrounding district.
The town is on the Midland Highway on the way to Hobart in Tasmania. The highway these days goes around the town of Ross but we often call into the town for a look and rest.
We were there last Easter and it's when I took these photos.
Looks like a nice town, the last photo includes your header.
ReplyDeleteLovely old town Bill. Yes you are correct on the house. Well done.
DeleteI think this is a really nice town.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Irma
It is a lovely town, hasn't changed much over the years.
DeleteNice old town.
ReplyDeleteYes Anne, it's old world.
DeleteSuch a lovely little town!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is.
DeleteIt does look gorgeous. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome..
DeleteRoss is such an elegant town! Everything looks boutique.
ReplyDeleteIt's a classy town.
DeleteI can't remember the town. It looks wonderful and just so Tasmanian.
ReplyDeleteIf travelling to Hobart these days you have to turn off to go into Ross.
DeleteMargaret, I am struck by the large size of the tree trunks, that tells me that they have been there for many years.
ReplyDeleteYes many years and planted there. They do look good especially in autumn.
DeleteThe leaves would keep the street sweepers busy, but would be a resident's nightmare
ReplyDeletewith the mess on rooves, gardens and lawns.
Weird here in Terrigal - leaves off trees in Spring ???? The mess is terrible.
Sure is a quaint town with no doubt an interesting history.
Love the Ross Bakery Inn.
Cheers
Colin
Leaves cause a big mess but I expect the people are used to them now. It's a good bakery but not open everyday unfortunately.
DeleteIt is a lovely old town. Super photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane. Always take photos in Ross when passing through and on different angles for photos.
DeleteYou captured the charm of this place very well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill.
DeleteWell worth leaving the highway for.
ReplyDeleteA must for me David.

ReplyDeleteQue tengas un feliz fin de semana.
Different from what I've seen in the houses in your country.
DeleteI have a feeling I have been to Ross the photos ring a bell in my memory
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you would have been there Jo-Anne as you travelled south.
DeleteYour photographs show a nice looking town.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thanks Jan.
DeleteLooks like a small town at its best... grocery store, bakery, gift store, inn. None of which are corporate chains. Wonderful!! Oh, and love the doors!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely no chain stores in Ross. Good isn't.
DeleteDoes Ross have heritage protection, either for individual buildings or for the town as a whole? I do hope so.
ReplyDeleteIt's registered on the National Estate Hels. There are many Heritage buildings and sites in the Ross area of significant value.
DeleteA very beautiful ancient town. I like this kind of places.
ReplyDeleteI'm interesting in this type of place too, there is so much early history hear and the architecture also is amazing.
DeleteVeramente carina questa cittadina, sembra uscita dalle pagine di un libro...
ReplyDeleteYes it does really, open a page and there you have lovely scene.
DeletePretty town.. But where are the people?
ReplyDeleteAh! Has you stumped as to where are the people.
DeleteIt's a small rural town so you hardly ever see a local walking around, tourists often stop to have a look around, somedays there are not many other days you can't get parked in the street where the two bakery's are.
There is a beautiful Post Office and Town Hall, a very small supermarket and a Hotel, a caravan park and probably a few other things.
Scorci molto interessanti e belli, complimenti cara Margharet. Ciao e buon fine settimana, un abbraccio Angelo.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angelo.
DeleteMe gustó conocerlo. Besos.
ReplyDeleteOh yes Teresa, lovely to walk down the street.
DeleteAbsolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteI certainly agree.
DeleteA charming and historic town. Love it, and the trees are like the icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteOh those trees are beautiful Pauline, makes the street look so lovely, they have been there for years by the size of them.
DeleteBellas imagenes que aunan la arquitectura y la arboleda.
ReplyDeleteUn saludo, amiga

Agree with you, it's such a sweet town, take you back in time.
DeleteWhat a cute little town. It is weird for me for you to be talking about easter and have leaves on the ground. For us, the leaves are barely even out for Easter!
ReplyDeleteWe are now at the beginning of spring. Very different seeing snow in photos from the northern hemisphere go for me in our summer, so can relate to what you have written.
DeleteBeautiful town . That plum-coloured door in the 2nd photo is such a beautiful contrast to the brickwork. I hope I visit Australia and Tasmania one day.
ReplyDeleteIt sure does go well that door. Hopefully you do get to visit Tasmania and the remainder of Australia someday but do give yourself plenty of time to visit.
DeleteIt's a quaint town and there are not that many like it in Tasmania.
I feel like moving into town.
ReplyDeleteIt would be ever so peaceful there John..
DeleteLove the charming town, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings
Thanks Veronica
DeleteSo beautiful photos.

Best regards.
When visiting and walking up the street one gets the feel of old world charm.
DeleteQuiet and beautiful town, just how I like it.
