Ross, Tasmania

Ross is such a gorgeous town in my book, it has a lot of history attached to it, was settled in 1821.
Ross developed as a base for the local garrison and became a centre for trade for the surrounding district.
The town is on the Midland Highway on the way to Hobart in Tasmania. The highway these days goes around the town of Ross but we often call into the town for a look and rest.
We were there last Easter and it's when I took these photos.

  5. Margaret, I am struck by the large size of the tree trunks, that tells me that they have been there for many years.

    1. Yes many years and planted there. They do look good especially in autumn.

  6. The leaves would keep the street sweepers busy, but would be a resident's nightmare
with the mess on rooves, gardens and lawns.
Weird here in Terrigal - leaves off trees in Spring ???? The mess is terrible.
Sure is a quaint town with no doubt an interesting history.
    Love the Ross Bakery Inn.
    Cheers

    1. Leaves cause a big mess but I expect the people are used to them now. It's a good bakery but not open everyday unfortunately.

  12. Looks like a small town at its best... grocery store, bakery, gift store, inn. None of which are corporate chains. Wonderful!! Oh, and love the doors!

  13. Does Ross have heritage protection, either for individual buildings or for the town as a whole? I do hope so.

    1. Ah! Has you stumped as to where are the people.
It's a small rural town so you hardly ever see a local walking around, tourists often stop to have a look around, somedays there are not many other days you can't get parked in the street where the two bakery's are.
There is a beautiful Post Office and Town Hall, a very small supermarket and a Hotel, a caravan park and probably a few other things.

  23. Beautiful town . That plum-coloured door in the 2nd photo is such a beautiful contrast to the brickwork. I hope I visit Australia and Tasmania one day.

    1. It sure does go well that door. Hopefully you do get to visit Tasmania and the remainder of Australia someday but do give yourself plenty of time to visit.
It's a quaint town and there are not that many like it in Tasmania.
