The Mall

A few photos of the Mall in the City of Launceston and those little creatures that some people fall over.
Those statues or whatever you call them are sculptures of Tasmanian Tigers now extinct. There were even smaller ones in the same area but they have been removed because people has been tripping over them, now the ones shown in the photos they are to be removed too and all taken to the Civic Square where they will be placed up higher so no one trips over them.

  1. The way that people walk around with eyes glued to their phones it’s hardly surprising they trip.

  2. Well how sad the tigers have gone extinct! Another one, lost.
    Have a sweet weekend!

    1. Thanks Donna. Last tiger was seen in about 1936, however there are parts of Tasmania that no one has explored so who knows they could still be in that area.

  3. I once saw a TV show that was looking for these animals. There had been some bad video somewhere that looked like it was this extinct animal. No animal was found in the program.

    1. Oh yes Anne, a siting occasionally and the people that swear they saw one but there is never a good photo to say so unfortunately.

  4. Gosh. They don't look like tigers, kind of pre-historic.

    1. They do look prehistoric these Tasmanian Tigers looked like a rather large dog with stripes on them from the waist back.

  5. I agree with David, lots of people walk these days glued to their phones.

  6. Belle sculture che arricchiscono i luoghi, se le persone inciampano è perche sono distratte soprattutto dai telefonini, hanno ragione gli amici di sopra. Ciao Angelo.

  7. Haven't visited a mall in ages...the Tasmanian Tigers, thought they were wolves.

    1. I don't go that often as there is nothing in there for me mostly. They look like dogs as wolves do.

  8. I like them. Too bad they weren't placed on a riser or pedestal. I can see how people might trip over them.

    1. Well they are going to be put on something that is higher a few streets along where there is not so many people walking.

  9. Margaret, I think people don't see anything these days, they walk around with their heads looking at their mobile. It's a shame that they took out those sculptures make the landscape different.

    1. Yes it's true what you say, and people just don't look either or read signs when shopping Norma.

  10. How sad that they are a trip hazard. I would love to see them - and see that there is some debate about whether it is possible (or desirable) to bring them back from extinction.

    1. Well now that's a thing, bringing them back from distinction, haven't heard anythning about that of late. I'm sure they can do it eventually EC

    1. It is sad but even these larger ones which are small it's so easy to trip over them Jo-Anne.

  14. The statues are looking rather fierce. It is always good to have clear space in the square.

    1. They do look fierce and I'm sure they were, the settlers used to kill them and sell their skins.

  15. They look great but yes, they do need to be better and more safely placed. Young people just can't see things through older eyes.

    1. You are correct on that Andrew. It must have been a younger person who thought it would be a good idea to have them in our Mall in the first place.

  16. They are lovely but agree they should be in a safe place.

  17. I can't imagine people tripping over this.
Will they be busy with their phone and not paying attention??
That could certainly be the case here in the Netherlands, I don't know how it is in your country, but here people are busy with their phone while driving while it is forbidden, I really don't understand how people can be so addicted to a phone, they don't want to miss a thing.

    1. Agree with you Irma. Here people would be walking along and trip over them, or they just don't look where they are walking.
Here we are heavly fined if caught using phone whilst driving, it's a real problem.

  18. I'm afraid the mall isn't the proper place for statues.

  23. Was the Mall once a street full of cars and buses? The pedestrianised strip is cleaner, fresher, less crowded and less polluted than a normal city street, but in the photos it looks a bit empty. Do pedestrians flood in? Do market stalls set up in the Mall?

    1. Yes the mall did have cars and buses can remember that.
I went to the mall late in the afternoon but it's never very busy.
They don't have markets in the mall or anything like that to encourage people to go there, such a shame.

  24. I'm with David, people is too busy with their phones to pay attention at their walk.
Those statues are very beauitul and, in my opinion, they had to stay there, on the sidewalk.

    1. Yes most people do go along reading their phones not watching where they are going.

  25. Those Tasmanian tigers sculptures are impressive. Too bad they aren't programmed to growl when someone steps too close. But no doubt they will look just as good in a safer location.

    1. Now that's a good idea. There are other ones in another area which are safer.

    I thought they were dogs!
What a shame they are a trip hazard!

    1. Oh yes could be taken for dogs as the Tasmanian tiger was a large creature similar to a large dog.

  27. Interesting and beautiful sculptures, in my opinion they don't look like tigers, but dogs. It's really a shame that some people don't respect and appreciate them as they deserve, luckily they're going to have a "new home".

    1. Yes a new home where they will be appreciated more. They do look like a dog, a large one with stripes from half way down their back to their tail.

  28. These statues are beautiful! I hope they will get the most perfect new home. Thank you for sharing them.

  29. They look more like a dog to me, but still nice to see.
Such a shame they are a trip hazard, it's good they will be put somewhere a little safer.

  30. Curiosas fotos, se ven pequeños tigres y entre los móviles siempre activos y su posicion no será difícil tropezar con ellos mejor trasladar donde no estén por medio.
