A few photos of the Mall in the City of Launceston and those little creatures that some people fall over.
Those statues or whatever you call them are sculptures of Tasmanian Tigers now extinct. There were even smaller ones in the same area but they have been removed because people has been tripping over them, now the ones shown in the photos they are to be removed too and all taken to the Civic Square where they will be placed up higher so no one trips over them.
The way that people walk around with eyes glued to their phones it’s hardly surprising they trip.
ReplyDeleteThat's very true as people do that down here too.
DeleteWell how sad the tigers have gone extinct! Another one, lost.
ReplyDeleteHave a sweet weekend!
hugs
Donna
Thanks Donna. Last tiger was seen in about 1936, however there are parts of Tasmania that no one has explored so who knows they could still be in that area.
DeleteI once saw a TV show that was looking for these animals. There had been some bad video somewhere that looked like it was this extinct animal. No animal was found in the program.
ReplyDeleteOh yes Anne, a siting occasionally and the people that swear they saw one but there is never a good photo to say so unfortunately.
DeleteGosh. They don't look like tigers, kind of pre-historic.
ReplyDeleteThey do look prehistoric these Tasmanian Tigers looked like a rather large dog with stripes on them from the waist back.
DeleteI agree with David, lots of people walk these days glued to their phones.
ReplyDeleteThey do Bill, they do.
DeleteGostei destas esculturas.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

Thanks. They are a different kind of a creature.
DeleteBelle sculture che arricchiscono i luoghi, se le persone inciampano è perche sono distratte soprattutto dai telefonini, hanno ragione gli amici di sopra. Ciao Angelo.
ReplyDeletePhones yes, but also people just don't watch where they are walking.
DeleteHaven't visited a mall in ages...the Tasmanian Tigers, thought they were wolves.
ReplyDeleteI don't go that often as there is nothing in there for me mostly. They look like dogs as wolves do.
DeleteI like them. Too bad they weren't placed on a riser or pedestal. I can see how people might trip over them.
ReplyDeleteWell they are going to be put on something that is higher a few streets along where there is not so many people walking.
DeleteMargaret, I think people don't see anything these days, they walk around with their heads looking at their mobile. It's a shame that they took out those sculptures make the landscape different.
ReplyDeleteYes it's true what you say, and people just don't look either or read signs when shopping Norma.
DeleteHow sad that they are a trip hazard. I would love to see them - and see that there is some debate about whether it is possible (or desirable) to bring them back from extinction.
ReplyDeleteWell now that's a thing, bringing them back from distinction, haven't heard anythning about that of late. I'm sure they can do it eventually EC
DeleteSono bellissime queste statue, peccato che la gente ci inciampi ...
ReplyDeleteIt is a pity, but if I wasn't looking I could fall over them easily as they are not very tall.
DeleteI really like your blog.
ReplyDeleteIts amazing and full of information.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you.
DeleteI like those Tassie tigers sad the small ones had to be removed because people don't look where they are where they are walking.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad but even these larger ones which are small it's so easy to trip over them Jo-Anne.
DeleteThe statues are looking rather fierce. It is always good to have clear space in the square.
ReplyDeleteThey do look fierce and I'm sure they were, the settlers used to kill them and sell their skins.
DeleteThey look great but yes, they do need to be better and more safely placed. Young people just can't see things through older eyes.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct on that Andrew. It must have been a younger person who thought it would be a good idea to have them in our Mall in the first place.
DeleteThey are lovely but agree they should be in a safe place.
ReplyDeleteThey are different Diane and unique to Tasmania.
DeleteI can't imagine people tripping over this.
ReplyDeleteWill they be busy with their phone and not paying attention??
That could certainly be the case here in the Netherlands, I don't know how it is in your country, but here people are busy with their phone while driving while it is forbidden, I really don't understand how people can be so addicted to a phone, they don't want to miss a thing.
Greetings Irma
Agree with you Irma. Here people would be walking along and trip over them, or they just don't look where they are walking.
DeleteHere we are heavly fined if caught using phone whilst driving, it's a real problem.
I'm afraid the mall isn't the proper place for statues.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you especially ones so small.
DeleteEsos tigres son muy representativos de ese territorio y adornan en calquier lugar.
ReplyDeleteFeliz domingo de descanso
Yes, they are Tasmanian tigers.
DeleteBeautiful blog
ReplyDeleteThank you Rajani.
DeleteThe bronze canines are special, love them.
ReplyDeleteThey are very nicely done.
DeleteExcelentes imagenes,saludos y feliz semana.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteA mí me encantan y me apena que los hayan quitado. Abrazos.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased you like them, they are nice but not in the area they are in Teresa. They are in a better place now where people won't trip over them.
DeleteWas the Mall once a street full of cars and buses? The pedestrianised strip is cleaner, fresher, less crowded and less polluted than a normal city street, but in the photos it looks a bit empty. Do pedestrians flood in? Do market stalls set up in the Mall?
ReplyDeleteYes the mall did have cars and buses can remember that.
DeleteI went to the mall late in the afternoon but it's never very busy.
They don't have markets in the mall or anything like that to encourage people to go there, such a shame.
I wish I could watch them playing.
ReplyDeleteWell they are sculptures. Not sure what you mean. 🤔
DeleteI'm with David, people is too busy with their phones to pay attention at their walk.
ReplyDeleteThose statues are very beauitul and, in my opinion, they had to stay there, on the sidewalk.
Yes most people do go along reading their phones not watching where they are going.
DeleteThose Tasmanian tigers sculptures are impressive. Too bad they aren't programmed to growl when someone steps too close. But no doubt they will look just as good in a safer location.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a good idea. There are other ones in another area which are safer.
DeleteSuch beautiful sculptures!
ReplyDeleteI thought they were dogs!
What a shame they are a trip hazard!
Hugs and blessings, Margaret
Oh yes could be taken for dogs as the Tasmanian tiger was a large creature similar to a large dog.
DeleteInteresting and beautiful sculptures, in my opinion they don't look like tigers, but dogs. It's really a shame that some people don't respect and appreciate them as they deserve, luckily they're going to have a "new home".
ReplyDeleteYes a new home where they will be appreciated more. They do look like a dog, a large one with stripes from half way down their back to their tail.
DeleteThese statues are beautiful! I hope they will get the most perfect new home. Thank you for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteThey look more like a dog to me, but still nice to see.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame they are a trip hazard, it's good they will be put somewhere a little safer.
All the best Jan
They do look like dogs and are similar as in size to a large dog.
DeleteCuriosas fotos, se ven pequeños tigres y entre los móviles siempre activos y su posicion no será difícil tropezar con ellos mejor trasladar donde no estén por medio.
ReplyDeleteSaludos
I believe the council is going to move those Tasmanian Tigers as people do run into them because they are not looking where they are going.
DeleteMuy buena serie de imagenes, amiga
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHello my dear!
ReplyDeleteThe statues are great, I like this kind of art. I hope they have a good month :)
Greetings from Poland!
Thank goodness the statues will be placed on higher place.
ReplyDeleteThey don't look tiny enough to be trip over by the way
Hugs and blessings
