The sink hole

In South Australia a State of Australia in Mount Gambier there is a Sinkhole called The Umpherston Sinkhole or the Sunken Garden.  The sinkhole was once a typical limestone cave that formed by the corrosion of limestone rocks by seawater waves and the sinkhole was naturally created when the chamber's roof collapsed.

These photos were taken in 2003 when we visited the gardens.

  2. That sink hole has made a really lovely hidden garden. I remembering reading about a sink hole in the States where someone's house and car all collapsed into a sink hole!!!

    1. I read something like that too, not good when a house and people are involved. This one in SA is pretty when walking through it and on the edge at the top.

    1. Yes they did, it's in the middle of the city so it's much nicer to see something beautiful than a big hole.

  9. A gorgeous spot. I hope no one was standing on top of it when the roof collapsed!

    1. Never heard about anything and it was a long time ago when it happened. In 1886 it was made into a garden.
