The soft limestone rock of the coast began forming about 10 to 15 million years ago when this coastline was under the sea.
Cliffs are formed when the sea undercuts the edge of the land causing it to collapse. Harder blocks remain as stacks white the coast continues to erode away.

ReplyDeleteMaybe "whet" some overseas traveller's interests until they look at an atlas and see how far away Australia is????
Maybe you and "Shanks" continued along the Great Ocean Road to the world famous Bell's Beach where one of the series of surfboard riding World Championships is held?
(I think the 2015/16 just finished down there???).

DeleteA friend just shared a video of a helicopter ride taken along the Great Ocean Drive. I've only seen it from the road side, from the air it was magnificent.
