A poem after Valentine's Day

 A beautiful poem by George Gordon Bryon 1788 - 1824.

She Walks in Beauty is a short poem celebrating female beauty.  The beauty of the woman the speaker describes is in both her external appearance and her inner goodness.  Although it might generally be classified as a love poem the poet never actually declares that love.

An interesting poem for St. Valentine's Day.

SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that' best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus, mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

And on that cheek, an o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

  1. And that is a beautiful poem. It's ages since I've read it.

    Happy Valentine's Day to you, Margaret. Valentine's Day, in my opinion, is not only for lovers. It is for all humans throughout the world. And, how I wish more of those humans would realise that, and stop the hate and prejudice.

    Take good care. :)
