Agfest in Tasmania is a great occasion to see exhibts of a large proportion where people come from all over Tasmania and some parts of Australia to see. The Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania INC run the show and the website to view all about it is [ here ]
It's held in early May and we have been many times in the past. I found these two photo from way back where by the farmer is showing us in the field how they used to plow years ago. I remember my grandfather doing this and it was intersting to see once again.
How we have all come a long way with digital photography since these photos were taken about 20 years ago or more, amazing.
Never heard of it...sounds quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhen you live on the other side of the world I can understand you not having heard of it Angie. We always enjoyed the visit to see everything it has grown so big today it's hard to get around all the exhibits in once day.
DeleteWhen would you say those photos were taken? :)
ReplyDeleteThey were taken in 1999 mind you, a long time ago...I looked in the properties of the photos and unfortunately I wouldn't have a clue as to what digital camera I had at that time.
DeleteI was a kid but I still remember the workers that my maternal grandfather employed plowing the soil exactly like that. Good memories. : )
ReplyDeleteYes, wonderful memories Catarina. My grandfather as I mentioned still used his horses Clydesdales, named Blosson and Nugget..lol Other people had a tractor but not my Pa, was happy to do it the old fashioned way.
DeleteBeautiful photos that remind us of the past time.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing old photos of my grandfather who worked the land like this.
Thank you Maria. I remember going with my Pa collecting turnips with his horses and a cart with me in the cart. Also going to get firewood in his bush, remember how he put the chains onto the logs and pulled them to his woodyard with them. I feel blessed that I was able to be there in those times...makes me old you know..lol
DeleteHow work in the field has changed today. It is not only harvested but also bagged. Soon they will even take it to your house... lol!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, times have changed for sure Norma...
DeleteLooks so nice :)
ReplyDeleteHave a good day Margaret
Thank you..
DeleteI like the old photos, things have changed since those days
ReplyDeleteOh haven't they changed indeed, now farming is more of a business, one crop in then when harvested another one in the same paddock.
DeleteSon unas lindas fotos. El evento debe ser genial. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you JP. It's a big event down here is Agfest..
DeleteIn spite of them not being digital there is some kind of quality in them that I can't describe beyond there is 'life' in them.
ReplyDeleteSurprise Andrew, they are digital taken in 1999 and I don't recall the digital camera probably one of my first ones.
DeleteI might have had a digital Kodak camera as I was a great believer in that brand back then.
Magnificent Clydesdales.
ReplyDeleteColin
Beautiful horses Colin, my grandfather had two, Blossom and Nugget.
DeleteSuch a rural charm there
ReplyDeleteGood farmland out that way. My husbands parents had a farm a few kms along and then another farm further up the road where my husband and I lived for 8 years just after we were married before we moved to the city.
DeleteSo nice to see the old photographs.
ReplyDeleteHow things have changed over the years.
All the best Jan
Oh yes Jan, so many things have changed.
DeleteSuper old photos! I like the idea of your Agfest, and what a wonderful organization to get young people involved. Thanks for sharing Margaret!
ReplyDeleteThank you Denise and they are digital ones too...amazing, never took that many they were too hard to get taken off the 'card' back then, plus the card wasn't that large nor was the resolution so not many photos fitted if you get what I mean.
DeleteMy grandfather probably used a spade for his tiny garden where he grew food for his prize rabbits.
ReplyDeleteI expect he enjoyed doing that River.
DeleteThe photos are quite interesting. They show us the beginning of people's lives.
ReplyDeleteHistory is always eloquent when we never forget our ways from the past.
Happy March!
What you say is true.
DeleteBeautiful photos that remind us of the past.
ReplyDeleteI like old photos.
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma. I like old photos too, always interesting to see them.
DeleteI love the horses, too!
ReplyDeleteWonderful horses and in good condition.
DeleteHello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteGreat to see these old pictures.
It's nice to see how human do their job years ago.
Greetings, Marco
I'm pleased I came across there old digital photos as I had forgotten these two good scene.
DeleteUnsistema de arado, que ya pasó a la historia. Ahora el sistema de arado es bien mecánico.
ReplyDeleteFeliz fin de semana.
Yes all in the past, but I suppose in this world there would be an odd farmer who still uses this method.
DeleteThat's how it is Margaret, around here that scene was also common, my family on my mother's side were from the countryside and I remember being and living those scenes and others that are now history.
ReplyDeleteBest regards
It is good that we both have experienced this method of plowing, and now it's all moved on to the tractors with GPS'S.
DeleteBellas imagenes, que nos llevan a otros tiempos.
ReplyDeleteThank you, yes, takes us back a long time.
DeleteJust beautiful photos!
ReplyDeletehugs
Donna
Thank you Donna.
DeleteFantastic photo, it is used to be.
ReplyDeleteYes, how it used to be long ago.
DeleteChe meraviglia queste foto che ci ricordano i tempi che furono. Tra l'altro si avvicinano molto allo stile di vita dei pionieri americani della serie "la casa nella prateria" 😉
ReplyDelete
DeleteOh yes that is so true :)
Beautiful horses.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed.
DeleteThese photos are a wonderful glimpse into the past, Margaret. It's amazing to see how much has changed in just a couple of decades.
ReplyDeleteThank you Veronica. Yes, you are correct, times changes things.
DeleteThat is just crazy to think of how they plowed the land back then compared to today's technology. Imagine if there was time travel and farmers of yesteryear could see the equipment of today.
ReplyDeleteTime travel so hard to believe trying to make people understand that's how it is in the future with today's tractors and much more business like is farming today.
DeleteMuy interesante Margaret, hace muy poco todavía se araba así por aquí. Besos.
ReplyDeleteOh my, well at least many people to get to see how it was done if just recently the farmers brought tractors Teresa.
DeletePlowing with a horse in the field is a forgotten sight even in my countryside, and even - 20 years ago - you could see such a water fountain, but unfortunately even I had nothing to take photos with... which is a pity!
ReplyDeleteYes, those days have long gone when the grounds was plowed as the photos show...most people have tractors now.
Deleteso nice :)
ReplyDeletewhen we moved to our village i saw my uncles (mom's brothers ) ploughing their fields with help of pair of bulls and the tool which was unearthing soil had grass seat and as children we would take ride of it sometimes :)
amazing memories
hugs
