Sacred Heart Cathedral (a Catholic Church) was built of Sandstone in the mid to late 1800's, after a rest the Cathedral was completed in recent times being one of the largest Cathedral's in Australia.Didn't visit the Cathedral this visit (2019) as there was a funeral. The photos were taken several visits ago.
Fabulous photos Margaret. Stunning cathedral!
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise.
DeleteThat's a fine looking Gothic Revival style cathedral.
ReplyDeleteThat's correct Rosemary.
DeleteThat is a beautiful cathedral!!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is Catarina.
DeleteSome lovely shots of the interior.
ReplyDeleteIn Argentina we had a bit of a shock in a cathedral. It was definitely open. We were not the only people wandering in, including other tourists with cameras.
The open coffin, with body inside took us back. I don't think viewings are ever so public in Australia.
Oh gosh, that would have been a surprise indeed. Never seen a body in a Church with open coffin whilst with people walking in and out..never seen one open in Church at all, mainly the viewing of a body is done at the funeral parlour in Australia.
DeleteEs una gran catedral, con ese arte tan especial que solo tienen las catedrales.
ReplyDeleteMe han gustado mucho las fotos que has realizado.

DeleteIt's certainly a grand church built in very prosperous times. Are you sure about it being sandstone? In the last photo the bricks look quite dark for sandstone.
ReplyDeleteYes is sandstone quarried from Geelong according to Wikipedia Andrew.
Deletedefinitely a great church.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is Gosia.
DeleteBeautiful--- and to someone who grew up with Catholic Churches back in the days of the Marian (Latin) mass etc, there is an odd combination of European Gothic, Mission rusticity, and feeling of home.
ReplyDeleteAlways feel at home in the Catholic Church.
DeleteBeautiful church!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is Anita.
DeleteYes it is.
