Barnbougle, Tasmania.

Barnbougle is in the North Eastern area of Tasmania not far from Bridport where one can go and play golf and of course stay.  There is a club house, accommodation plus a restaurant called 'Lost Farm', Polo is also played once in awhile and recently several polo ponies died whilst in transit across Bass Strait one hot summers night on the Spirit of Tasmania, the boat we sail on from Devonport to Melbourne.
The outcome of this tragedy is not known by the general public as yet!

We visited Barnbougle earlier this year with our eldest son, his wife and their two little ones.

A link to Barnbougle for those that would like to browse their site.

Below the view from the above lookout.

A map for those that like to know where Barnbougle is.

    1. Many spend weeks nearby at Bridport where there is a nice beach and small village.

  4. Golf is popular near me but I don't think we have any serious polo outings

    1. I don't play golf, had a go once and wasn't wrapped in it.
The polo match's they have there the ponies are mostly brought over on the ship from Melbourne area in Victoria.

  5. It looks like the course is a bit sheltered by the sand dunes. I love the fence in the first photo.

    1. That fence reminds me of some of my late grandfather's fences on his farm when I stayed there which was usually once a year.
Was a bit windy on the day we were there, but I should imagine on a still day it would be magic playing golf there.

  6. That golf course would appeal to the European golfers - like the sand-belt world famous courses near Melbourne - Huntingdale being the best known.

As for the tragedy of those polo ponies on that ship, I reckon some heads will roll. Where were the handlers? Hopefully not enjoying the delights of the bar area.
It really is quite a mystery at present. Horses just don't die on a overnight trans-Bass Strait ferry.
"Tassie" really has much to offer the visitor - Aussie and International.
Keep up the good promotional work, Margaret.

    1. Would be good to stay there especially if you played golf and a walk along around the dunes would be also lovely...we were there at the end of summer school holiday that probably accounts for not many being about.
