Heading home, Winter 2016

Batemans Bay is not that far from Melbourne, Victoria so therefore not far from home which is the Island of Tasmania south of Victoria.
Batemans Bay was much cooler in temperature so the heater came out when necessary, plus winter clothing.

We stayed in a nice caravan park a few klms from the town it was by the beach, but we couldn't see the sea, that was just a few steps away.

Didn't pull the awning out due to strong winds at times.
Below is the Camp Kitchen for those that wish to use it.

Part of the Playground below.

The sign above was in the fish and chips shop.
One below was in the walkway to the supermarket.

Another beach near Batemans Bay

The houses have the view of above.

On the map don't know why it takes so long to fly - maybe stop over.

  2. I always chuckle when I hear about Aussies getting out the heaters and winter clothing. We don't even think of that until around zero!

    1. No matter where you are on the Island you are no more than 250klms from the sea.

  6. Wonderful experiences! I would like to travel like that as well at least once. Everywhere I went/go is by plane, except a trip to Florida a few years ago. We drove and took for ever!!!

  7. Something amiss with that air route map and time!
With tailwinds from Sydney you could be in Los Angeles
    in that time frame.
Someone has made a right royal mess up with that map!
    Weird indeed.
Never been done to Bateman's Bay........I believe it is a good
    fishing area.
Fresh fish vans from Bateman's Bay travel as far west as Young and
Wagga Wagga with fresh fish in refrigeration. Probably go even
further west???? Some Aussie may know????
    Cheers
    Colin

  11. "Not far from home" - only Australians would say that about a place that is still 100 of km away!

    1. Lol, :) 300 klm is not far either in Australian's eyes.

  12. My brother and his wife are doing a similar trip right now. They rented a large campervan and drove from Adelaide, I think they reach Townsville today where they will stay a while visiting with family, then they'll come home. They're practising for when they retire and become grey nomads travelling the country.

  13. There are really long distances. And you say "Not far from home" about 1200 km... !!

For instance, whole Finland is long 1157 km (south-north). In northern Lapland there may be a full winter at the same time as in southern Finland the grass is green.

I like the fast food sign, it's great. The beaches looks lonely, a bit windy but really beautiful.

    1. Many Australians say it's 'not far from home' because distance is always far in many cases. Some people live 300 kms from a 'shop' in the outback for they live on 'Stations' (large farm) so distance is nothing to them :)

Being winter and in the southern part of Australia it's not warm enough in Winter to be on the beach or in the sea according to we Australians.

  14. I like how you express in photos of what you are seeing in your travels. You even included two signs that a lot of people would have overlooked.

    1. Thanks Andy.
I was amused at the sign in the shop :) maybe I'm a bit more observant than some at 'times', other times I'm not.

  15. The fate of carrying the built-in house is that the long distances are not made so painful, you can stop and resting in fantastic places-

    1. That's the idea of caravaning, you see so many different things and take your time mostly to have a good look at what amuses you.

  16. We Texans remark about distance in hours too (not miles/km)

    1. It's not that far for Australian standards Noke. City people it might be but for those that live away from the cities it's not that far..
