Down to Eden, NSW

Arrived at Eden in October 2016 for a few nights staying at a very clean cute caravan park.
Never have we seen a sign as below in all our years of travelling Australia since the year 2000 only missing a couple of years. (Usually winter only)

Often the sailing boats come to Eden for shelter.

A Museum above and fishing boats below.

What a view for a Cemetery over looking the sea.

At the lookout below.

  2. I miss going to an ocean beach; miss the salty water.
    A cemetery facing the ocean!…
The fishing boats picture is fabulous.

    1. I like the sea and looking at it. We here in Tasmania are no more than 250 kms from the sea at anyone one time.

  3. A calm sea which invites to the bathroom. In Spain the cemetery of Comillas it's facing the sea.

    1. That would be a nice cemetery as well then, 'best real estate in the town', that's a common saying here.

  4. Margaret the sign is not common in Europe, too. Cementary facing the sea looks fantastic

  7. I have never seen that sign either. Tragedies over the last few years might have inspired it.
Love that the cemetary inhabitants get such a lovely view.

    1. Someone must have had damage done in the caravan park for the sign to be there..and it depends on the type of trees also.
That sign says at the cemetary there are snakes about in the season...had me looking under my feet, but more like summer they would be there.

  8. I had to search my own blog to find what I thought of Eden when we visited but did not stay. I took a similar photo as yourself at Bastion Point. I am not sure if this link will work.

    1. Yes the link worked, thanks Andrew.
Very similar, one would think we stood side by side.

  9. Eden is the last mainland port that the yachts in the Sydney/Hobart Boxing Bay yachts can "limp" into if they are out due to various mishaps/situations in the race.
I think once past Eden then either backtrack or hope for the best!!!!
First sheltered sea port in Tassie????????

Very sensible sign........should be more of them as trees have a bad habit of
losing branches......the big ones DO make a mess of a caravan roof etc.

Very idyllic location for a final resting place.
    Great post Margaret.
    Cheers

    1. Thanks Colin.
I understand it's the last place for boat to shelter in the Sydney/Hobart yacht race on Boxing Day, I believe the first time I head of Eden was due to that same race years ago.

  11. I could retire there, if the kids weren't here in SA. They are the only reason I'm still here.

  12. I suspect that the sign is probably a protection to the caravan park owners against any liability in case a branch does fall and damage a parked vehicle. They can always say "you were warned".

  13. I have always wanted to go to Eden it sounds so ...well lovely! I hope there are some beautiful gardens there too (sorry - big grin!) It looks pretty difficult to avoid parking under trees in that campsite? I suspect we'll see more of those signs around given recent events.
    Bye for now!
