To Nagambie, Victoria

Called into Nagambie, Victoria to a bakery bought some very tasty Vanilla Slices for breakfast along with a few other things to eat.

There was a bus load of 'older Australians' who had come to visit the monument to Black Caviar.

Black Caviar is a retired Australian Thoroughbred racehorse undefeated in 25 races, including 15 Group One victories, eclipsing the previous mark set by Kingston Town. She was named WTRR World Champion Sprinter in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Black Caviar was born in Nagambie in 2006 in the State of Victoria, Australia.

Was a bleak winters windy morning. The lake is used for rowing.

  4. Country towns OFTEN seem to have the best bakeries. I didn't realise there was a monument to Black Caviar.

    1. I would reckon you did go to the same bakery as there is only one there...magic food.
Well it rained on and off that day Andrew, but it was winter.
Thanks for the link - different with nicer weather.
Have got some photos of the lake with fog taken on one of our trip and also with blue sky taken another time.
      It's a nice town.

  9. Black Caviar's first foal, a filly and nicknamed "Grettie" has commenced
pre-training at the racing stables and private tracks of David Hayes in the
Adelaide hills ( close to Hadndorf of wine fame).
I don't know the registered name of this filly but according to reports she has got ability, as good as her dam ????, time will tell.
    Cheers

    1. Besides the usual excellent country style bakery, Nagambie
is Australian well known for the following from Wikipedia
and nothing to do with poor old Hilary's problems with unimportant
      e-mails and Wiki interference:

"Nagambie is home to the Nagambie Lakes - which form a regional reservoir, and venue for many state and national rowing championships. The Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre is one of Victoria's major water sports facilities. The venue offers a 2000m, fully buoyed, National Standard rowing and canoeing course.

Nagambie On Water is an annual community event, featuring water themed activities, grape stomping, river to pub races and many other elements. This event is held in March each year.

New Year's Eve Fireworks are also held in the Nagambie Lakes area.

Nagambie Lakes Community Market (http://nagambiemarket.com.au/) runs monthly on the banks of Lake Nagambie and recently there has been news released of a Farmers Market coming to Nagambie from September 2016."

I reckon Nagambie would be an excellent place for a retirement village.
The place has everything and having been through the town and area I can strongly vouch for that area.

  10. Nagambie looks pretty; I hadn't known Black Caviar came from there, she is a most beautiful horse and I read somewhere that she just loved to run. I wonder if she still does, wherever she is now.
I like the idea of vanilla slices for breakfast.

    1. I was surprised to know that Black Caviar came from there too...the monument has been there for awhile now.
Normally for breakfast I'm a tea, toast with Vegemite but those vanilla slices are very tasty.

  15. Ooh! Rowing? Now there's a sport I'd love to watch. I grew up in a dry area and the lakes around here are too swampy. I think that's going on the bucket list.
