Onward and Upwards.

Continuing on our journey in early July 2016 we went from Goomeri to Rockhampton then to Mackay for two nights thinking that we may stay longer on our way back down south.
There is always an urgency to drive to the north 'the destination Cairns' as quickly as possible with stay overs for a few nights when in the warmer climate.
We had pasted the Tropic of Capricorn at Rockhampton, Qld.

The internet available on the way to Mackay was almost non existent in some towns in the caravan parks.  Even in Mackay at the park it wasn't good, they didn't have the NBN (National Broadband Network).   Many people didn't know what NBN was and that was for all of the area we travelled north and south.
As for Telstra Air!  Where are those?  Hardly find a phone box, and if we did they are in the middle of the city few and far between with no parking - so we can forget the idea.  Glad I didn't join that now.
Most Australians reading this will know what I mean.

This pretty plant was hanging over the fence at the caravan park in Mackay.

Part of the Marina in Mackay, Qld.  If you can see a brick wall to the right, that goes for some distance with the sea on the other side.

Further along the drive (the brick wall) is an opening to the sea. A yacht on the way back to the marina.

Many people take their dogs for a walk along this area 'convenient bags' - we don't often see this.

The main beach which is opposite the marina and it's here that the annual Beach Horse Races were held on our return journey.

The lighthouse which I posted whilst on holiday, it's down by the marina.

  1. You do see some beautiful places on your wanders. NBN's invisibiilty is a bit of an inditement of the government's action.

    1. Good beach to walk on Gosia, and Australia well put all of Europe in it or the whole of the USA as most of the latter country fits too.

  3. Some of our parks have rolls of dog waste bags and people tend to take large numbers of them. Most people now are pretty good about dog waste and take their own bags. If you are not familiar with them, you can buy a plastic container that attaches to the dog's leash with a roll of plastic bags inside.

We have Telstra Air but don't use it often and even then only for short periods. I would rate the internet in the parks we stayed in as average for both speed and data allowance. One place apologised for not having NBN but it had one of the best services.

    1. Oh do they, greedy people.
When we had our two dogs I always carried a bag from home even though there are two parks within walking distance from home, these parks didn't have bags...they are only small parks.

Gosh you were lucky then with the caravan parks, we only had a small number that worked. I expect if I had of gone to the office and paid it would have been much improved - though most were free but not good at all.

  4. That's a very pretty Marina and lighthouse.
We have the dog waste bags available here in Adelaide, but a lot of them are empty because, like Andrew said, people take them by the dozen.

    1. Oh dear about the dog bags - shame on the people.
We saw many Marina's and lighthouses on the journey and it's sometimes difficult to choose which marina photos to choose from.

That was a very pretty flower, when we called on our way down south from Cairns, that flower was gone.

    1. You could put them in a canoe along with yourself, but I think something larger would be required for the 3 of you...

  9. Good memories, in the form of images, of a summer holiday facing the sea. The beach invites to the bath and the sea is a great temptation for do it.

    1. Not so easy to go for a swim in the northern part of Australia due to sharks, stingers etc...some places have shark nets, other places don't and of course the crocodiles, one always has to watch out for them.

  10. All of these are fantastic photo's - yes, even the 'convenient bag'- I liked it's colour!

The beach looks so lovely and the lighthouse is good too, the white of it against the green trees and beautiful blue sky.

    All the best Jan

Just checked all from my last viewing. Interesting to see that you photographed the "Woobly Boot" at godforsaken Boggabilla. Did you do that to give me 1950 childhood nightmares - ha ha????

Could have a new southern address VERY soon, my sisters move fast!!!!
So "Sammy the Snail", has to reinvent to Speedy Gonzales.
More in e-mail on my return north of "The Tweed".
