Launceston, Tasmania, Australia

Went into our small city so took a few photos whilst shopping for a new cutlery set.  We bought a 56 piece and 42 set of the same kind.  We had two settings we are going to give away to a charity, then it was discovered that we had 3 more large settings in the garage which came from my late dads.  Forgot about them! Will keep one set for the new Caravan when it arrives hopefully next month.

Launceston College.  In my view not a nice building to look at, it just about takes up a whole city block.  There are much nicer buildings than the ones I am showing here. I will take a photo of them eventually.

Myer a well known department store.

A bit of Art Deco

The above Pizza shop was once a Service Station, then a clothing establishment.

A shoe shop.

A mess!  Apparently here is going to be a nice new supermarket as if we need another.

A street opposite a shoe store.

The RSL which used to be the Public Works Department.

As it says, anything you wish to buy pertaining to a horse.

  1. Interesting series of pictures. I'm like you , not too impressed with the first ones, but the next white building is interesting. Fun to just have some time to shop and take some photos.

    1. Usually in a hurry when in the city area, and of course don't usually take my camera. Some buildings are not nice, others are...

  2. The RSL is as awful as the art deco building is terrific. As far as modern buildings go, I don't mind the pizza building. The Blue Illusion streetscape is nice.

    1. Most of the city is like the Blue Illusion, nice footpaths and clean. The RSL is a disgrace in my book, it doesn't look inviting to eat at the restaurant either. Long time since we have eaten there..

  3. Hmmmmmmmmm.
Launceston is a BIG let down after your previous small town shots!
Might be a good idea if the City Councillors opened their bloody eyes
and not wallets for "you know what to be put in", and I am not referring to
    V. Putin in Russia!
I'd go one step further than Andrew (above) - the RSL is a bloody disgrace,
could be a building to house junk or such.
Looking forward to the "nicer" views of Launceston to obliterate these as shown.

Good God - how many sets of table cutlery do you need?
You'll be able to open a small "avante garde" and Latte Set restaurant in your front garden???
    Cheers

    1. Launceston is ok, it's just a few building that don't meet my approval. The RSL needs a good coat of paint! Was once ok from the outside but it's now very tired.
Yes, a bit weird all those cutlery sets we found, but as I mentioned some from my late dads. I have doubled, tripled on many things that are too good. When parents die and I'm the only child, when all things from my parents house were fairly new there are items that I want to keep, items that I have given away...and it goes on!

  4. That was my first reaction too - the buildings are a bit sterile at the college - they don't seem to fit in with the lovely feel of the area.

  5. The college looks so modern.Horseland is it a shop?

    1. Yes it's modern and doesn't seem to fit with other buildings...will get used to it.
Yes, Horseland is a shop where you can purchase things pertaining to or for horses.

  6. Didn't notice at first.
The flags on the pedestrian mall in front of Myers.
An Australian and a Tasmanian flag but what is that yellow (Gold) and
green flag with stars. I know gold and green are the colours of our national
sporting teams, but I never knew about any flag which this "could be"???
Do you know what this green and gold flag is???
    Cheers

    1. The yellow and gold flag is: a cricket flag! Not sure if it's the Tasmanian one or Australian one, as I do believe they are the same colours. Tasmania has a Tasmanian Tiger on their cricket flag.

    2. I just had to respond here - it's the flag of Launceston! Do a Google Image Search for "flag of launceston".

  8. I love art deco and the old service station is lovely too. The college looks to austere - a bit like a prison (which is what I'm sure the students think too)!

    1. You are probably right regarding the students :).
There are more Art Deco buildings around the city and suburbs...

  10. I love when you share the sights and architecture around you. The art deco building is fantastic. There are a lot of horse farms near us. They would love that one store!

    1. I am sure those horse farmers would. We had a store in the city a long time ago but it wasn't very convenient.

    1. You are welcome. I like a change once in a while and try to choose somthing that is readable. I think i'm happy with what i have chosen this time. I don't care for small font, need a magnifying glass to see it myself.
