George's Diner and Conway Beach, Queensland.
You can click on the link above and see a small video of George's Diner is you wish, it only goes for a few seconds. There is a caravan park attached to the Diner.
3,000 km from Launceston to Conway Beach so it's a long way from home. We visited there a few years back whilst staying at Proserpine in Queensland. See map below. As many of you know we are two people who hop in the car and go for a drive, but we go where our nose leads us, that is what happened this day and we ended up at Conway Beach at George's Diner from Proserpine and had some lunch.
Kite surfing is popular as is fishing, walking along the 2km beach and just relaxing.
The Diner is done in the 1950's style and so surprised to see it so beautifully done.
The map shows with stars from Proserpine to Conway Beach, just follow the Stars.

Hello Margaret. I watched the video. The shop feels as though it has stepped out of another era, yet it is still so full of life. You can sense the atmosphere of that time while still enjoying the comforts of today. With all the miles you have traveled and all the experiences you have gathered, you could honestly make a documentary. I always enjoy seeing the new places you share because I truly love reading about and seeing images from different parts of the world. It feels as though I am travelling right alongside you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely comment :)
DeleteYes, we have travelled I think it's 20 times across on the ferry and back so double that to go and get back home. We've travelled in so many areas, outback, cities and in between with in Australia and enjoyed every minute of it. We don't do that now and also travelled many roads here in Tasmania.
I too love to see other people's photos I find them very interesting and I'm always learning something new.
Very much my kind of fun diner. Loved seeing these. Though where re am, I can't see the video. Wishing you a great week.
ReplyDeleteYes it was a surprise that diner when we got there. Sorry you can't see the video, it's a video of the diner.
DeleteThank you and you have a great week too.
I like the diner and the cars, esp. that red pick-up. It would be delightful to take a walk at the beach, with bare feet touching the soft sands and brise on my face.
ReplyDeleteThe food was good there and the hamburger was a small one, my chips were tasty with normal salt. Walking on the beach was good, it's very flat there.
DeleteI watched the video too. The diner looks wonderful, and the beach too. I would have liked to be there.
ReplyDeleteIt was warm there as in the weather, and something different for us to see.
DeleteI'm sure you would enjoy it there, Marit.
Oh to be able to travel as freely as that! Spouse and I did that across Europe in a car in the 1970s, and loved every minute of the experience.
ReplyDeleteThe Qld diner reminded me of the American tables, checked floors, red vinyl and metal chair legs of a much earlier era.
I bet you had a lot of fun travelling Europe back then as we did when we travelled Australia, just follow your nose.
DeleteYes that diner certainly has been modelled on the American diners of the 50's, Hels.
Dear Margaret, I absolutely love old diners. The warm atmosphere, the comfort food, the checkered floors, the jukebox and the booths.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos, dear friend. ❤️ Thank you so much for sharing. 😊
I'm pleased you enjoyed seeing the photos, Linda. It was a fun day that day.
DeleteWow that is such a fun looking diner.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is, Hena.
DeleteThat is a massive road trip all the way from Launceston, but following your nose to spots like Conway Beach is exactly how the best travel memories happen. Finding a hidden gem like George’s Diner out in the middle of a spontaneous drive must have been such a fun surprise, especially with that cool retro 1950s look. It looks like the perfect, peaceful stretch of coast to just reset and enjoy some lunch after a long stretch on the road.
ReplyDeleteThe trip was done over many days, Melody. We have to catch the ferry to Melbourne in the State of Victoria back then, then drive for several days to get there, so once there we stayed a while to rest and drive about. Beautiful coastline up there too.
DeleteAround here we say 'wherever the wind takes us.' How nice it is to travel like that without a set direction!
ReplyDeleteThat is so true that saying Norma. You never now where you will end up :)
DeleteIt really looks like a walk through history.
ReplyDeleteOh it was and education for us for sure.
DeleteGoodness! 3,000 km from Launceston to Conway Beach is a very long way from home!
ReplyDeleteLovely photographs from the diner and I did click on the video link.
As always thank you for the map :)
All the best Jan
Many days to get there, Jan. Ferry then driving.
DeleteYou are welcome re map, I know it does help. Glad you watched the video.
Linda playa y lindo local. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you J.P. It is nice there.
DeleteGreat - just like some US mini-serries of years ago. I can't recall what but had
ReplyDeletesome upcoming new stars.
Absolutely terrible weather here - winter with a vengence!!!
Cheers
Colin
Actually it was an Australian mini-series with top Aussie actors.
DeleteThe young boy was sent to some private boarding school and his father
had a farm. They were originally from some area of war-torn Europe after
WW2.
Colin
Oh, I don't recall the mini series, Colin.
DeleteKeep warm with your terrible weather, cool today here no sun, just a dull day but had the backyard seen to, roses pruned, trees trimmed ready for spring!
it was called TROY - based on tales of Homer.
DeleteWhether Troy ever existed - I don't know. I think NOT1
The cast 0f the movie was a who's who of stars.
Archilles - Brad Pitt.
Prince Hector - Eric Bana
Younger brother of Hector and the lover of Helen - Orlando Bloom.
it was a full length movie!
All stars were top of the class and Hector's ( Eric Bana) father was Peter O'Toole!
It certainly is worth getting the DVD.
Colin
The diner theme is carried outside too. What a terrific place, with such attention to the details.
ReplyDeleteYes, it all fits well there and it's been sold this year, and new owner have taken it over, so I read.
DeleteIt looks beautiful and so well detailed. I want to go there and eat chips.
ReplyDeleteThe chips were good, R. We arrived late morning and were not real hungry, so the chips did me and a small hamburger did B.
DeleteTak to je pěkná dálka od domova. ☺ Připomíná mi to jednu naši cukrárnu - kavárnu, měla název Monika a tam jsme občas chodili. Takové boxy byly v módě a právě to sezení mě nejvíc upoutalo. I na těch židlích se musí dobře sedět. A ta autíčka jsou kouzelná. ☺
ReplyDeletePřeji pěkný nový týden.
That is interesting there was diner similar. All good to see.
DeleteWhat a nice eatery this is, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteI think you guys drive really long distances by car, here you're already out of the country after 350 kilometers.
We don't like driving long distances.
I wish you a lovely week.
All the best, Irma
Yes we do drive long distances Irma, however it took several days plus the ferry to get there, once there we stayed and had a good rest and drove around. 350 km is the distance between some towns in Australia. :)
DeleteI love the interior deco so much
ReplyDeleteMe too. Was a big surprise to see it and dine there.
DeleteA wonderfully colorful eatery! It's nice to go for a drive.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to drive to these places when away from home, Anne.
DeleteReally wonderful restaurant and decoration, you feel like you're at home.
ReplyDeleteBest regards and hugs, Andreja!
It was/is a homely place away from home :) Andreja.
DeleteQue lanchonete legal, deu até fome
ReplyDeleteIt is nice. Places like the diner do make us feel hungry sometimes.
Yes a very long way from home and it is good to eat there and places like it, Stefania.
DeleteI like the look of that diner, it looks like place I would like
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you would love it Jo-Anne.
DeleteRather Whimsical - Would Love To Share A Bite There While Reminiscing - Outstanding Post My Dear
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday ,
Cheers
Thank you, Padre.
DeleteBig Hugs
DeleteIt is so well done and miles from anywhere.
ReplyDeleteCertainly out of the way as in travel Diane but well worth going there.
ReplyDeleteThank you and it is a good place to be.
DeleteLooks like a 50's dinner for sure. It's so clean and very well done. The burger looks good too. Thank you for sharing this wonderful place.
ReplyDeleteIt was ever so clean in the diner, I always look for cleanliness.
DeleteLove this diner with all the retro stuff inside and the truck outside. A flashback to the 50s when these were very popular almost everywhere. Great photos, Margaret. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteYes they were popular back in the day Bill, and it's so good at least one diner still remains, and I do believe there are a few more similar throughout Australia.
DeleteMe gusgta Margaret.
ReplyDeleteBuena semana.
Un abrazo.
Wonderful you have good memories of back then, Laura. Nice to remember the good times.
DeleteI love the diner and the food looks good.
ReplyDeleteThe food was good, B had a small burger and I only wanted chips.
DeleteI enjoyed reading about this place. The diner looks wonderful. I think I saw a Rt. 66 sign tucked in there somewhere. Magnificent scenery in that first photo and I think you know how much I enjoy your maps. Thank you Margaret, wishing you a continued great week.
ReplyDeleteYou did see a Rt. 66 in the photo, Denise. The 1st photo, a big long beach is that one and extremely flat.
DeleteI’ve always loved the charm of old‑style diners --the booths, the shiny chrome, and that cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
ReplyDeleteIt was homely there and I also remember our first kitchen table had chrome around it and legs..lol, Veronica.
DeleteWhat a wonderful place!!
ReplyDeleteHere you can really see the difference between the places,
there are elements that you can understand where you are!
Oh yes, that is so true Katerina.
DeleteHola, Margaret.
It is a lovely place to visit, and one can put our toes in the sea too.
DeleteOh yes, blogger doesn't behave as it should and your posts are not always there but I look to see :)
Margaret good wednesday, Hug Andreja!
ReplyDeleteThank you Modrina and you too.
ReplyDeleteSaludos.
It sure was and is worth it.
DeleteSuch a beautiful place..oh my it is just like in a movie💖
ReplyDeleteIt is for sure, you wouldn't know you were not in a movie, Anita. :)
Thank you. I think we were very lucky to find out about this diner on our journey/holiday for 4 months.
DeleteI love these kinds of diners.
ReplyDeleteThat is good, I tell you the seats were so soft, amazing.
DeleteQue belleza. Me encanta! Un abrazo, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThank you Gil. It is nice.
ReplyDeleteSaludos
We went for a holiday for 4 months that time. Certainly worth the visit to there.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lucimar, you have a good weekend as it's Friday here now.
DeleteYes the diner does remind us of a movie.
I'm so pleased you found the black swans :) I haven't seen a real white one in many, many years. There used to be one in our City Park, but someone unfortunately killed it. They were find a lot of money for doing so.
DeleteThank you.
Dear Margaret!
ReplyDeleteDiner looks great place to enjoy sitting and favourite foods 👍
I enjoyed glimpses of it showing various seat options
Your choice of snacks looks amazing 🥰
A small lunch we ordered and had, it was tasty, Baili.
DeleteBeautiful area too.
Bonita playa, el restaurante me ha encantado. Un abrazo.
ReplyDeleteOh good Teresa. It is nice. Take care.
DeleteA fantastic beach and a lovely, welcoming, and fun retro diner.
ReplyDeleteI loved the diner and the cars.
Yes, it is all good and was pleasant to see all, Maria it's not every day we come across such things or diners. Take care.
DeleteWishing you a wonderful weekend, somewhere in the cool shade, a hug and a kiss, Andreja!
ReplyDeleteThank you Modrina. In my case we hope it's not too cold as it's winter down here.
DeleteSo you stay cool in your summer.
Noke
