This is the front of our house just after we redid the garden about 2 years ago. The little hedge around the front of the garden bed are 'Dwarf Nandinas'.
Two years later after the pruning of the shrubs except the Dwarf Nandinas, they will not be touched. For a better look just click on the image and it will be larger.
Banksia Roses white and yellow are growing up the lattice. We used to have these roses growing there years ago and removed when they became too large, it will be nice when the new ones grow as the old ones did.

You have a beautiful home Margaret, and a lovely garden. So many pretty plants and flowers. And that view!!! Thanks for sharing them with us and have a lovely week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThank you Denise.. We have a rural view out the front of Mt. Barrow then out the east side windows towards the back of the house we have Ben Lomond which is of course a higher mountain and rural view. We are pleased with the Nandinas and their autumn colour.
DeleteYou have a lovely garden, Margaret. The dwarf Nandinas are so beautiful. My climate is too cold for them. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThank Marit. When thinking of showing the front garden I thought you might like to see it as you yourself have such a beautiful garden one can admire.
DeleteThe Nandinas look good with their autumn colours. It is a shame you can't grow them where you are, but it takes a strong and the correct plant to live there.
I love the colours. Our plants look brown when there has been a drought.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hels. We water out plants if there are no water restrictions. I do love the autumn colour of the Nandinas.
DeleteMáte krásný dům i zahradu, radost pohledět. Květiny krásně kvetou, u nás ještě čekáme na větší jarní teploty a pak se také dočkáme květů. ☺
ReplyDeleteThank you Hanka. It will be wonderful when you have flowers once again this spring and as you know we are in autumn.
DeleteMargaret, you have a lovely garden and a beautiful home, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda.
DeleteWas für ein wunderschöner Garten. Für viele Pflanzen ist es hier leider zu kalt. Wie schön für dich, dass du so ein mildes Klima hast und deinen Garten so schön gestalten kannst.
ReplyDeleteThank you Neuer. Everyone who has a garden does it accordingly due to what will grow in the area. Yes, our climate is classed as temperate. The winter garden usually takes care of itself, plants do need pruning and of course there are always weeds!
DeleteYour garden looks lovely ... funnily enough I was talking to one of my sons earlier today about dwarf Nandinas.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Ah, there you are, now you can show him how they look and what colour they go to in your autumn, Jan.
DeleteMost impressive and what a glorious view over the valley from your place..
ReplyDeleteWho is the gardener at your place?
Weather here - can't make up its mind!
Cheers
Colin
Thank you Colin. Great view front of the house and towards the back as well. Had the best view before the house many years ago was built next door, but that doesn't matter, progress.
DeleteI'm not the gardener but will help if necessary. B is the gardener but it's getting beyond him at time, so eldest son and a few of his staff do it when he can fit us in with his busy schedule. He's a landscape gardener/horticulturalist and B was a Nurseryman after being a farmer.
I remember you posting about when you planted the garden bed and it has shaped up very nicely. The scent from the banksia rose flowers must be lovely.
ReplyDeleteYes I did post a couple of years ago, Andrew - you have a good memory and from memory Rosemary in England was interested to see how it turned out but she has lost the inkling to post these days.
DeleteThank you and the banksia roses do have a slight perfume which is pleasant at the front door.
You have a beautiful home!
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie.
DeleteIt looks beautiful, though I am not a fan of Nandina. The banksia roses are my favourites.
ReplyDeleteThank you R. I understand and see some Nandinas not cared for then they don't look loved. The banksias are always lovely in my book that is why I wanted to have them growing once again. We used to have wisterias growing there but the roots got underneath the house, caused no damaged but they were removed before they could.
DeleteA beautiful garden indeed, and I know it's many hours behind.
ReplyDeleteGreetings by Heidrun
Thank you. Yes, hours behind for you and seasons different also :)
DeleteYou are so beautiful garden and flowers.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI really like your house and the area you live in. ♥
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill. It's a nice area but of course it's now an older area, the house was new when we purchased it back in the 1970's.
DeleteWhat a beautiful garden you have, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteI see you also have a beautiful view of the mountains.
I wish you a lovely new week.
All the best, Irma
Thank you Irma. I'm thinking of you with those mountains we can see from our house because I remember you telling me you don't have them where you are :)
DeleteIt's very beautiful, and in one of the photos you can see that you have some wonderful views.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy this time of year!
Have a great week.
Best regards.
Thank you, Jose. We have mountains down the easter side of the house which is lovely to see and a rural area before those mountains.
DeleteWonderful gardening! When I opened your newly designed blog, I was very impressed with the beauty of red maple leaves.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I like the maple leaf so I set about making the background seamless.
DeleteYour garden looks so pretty, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThe dwarf Nandinas add such a nice touch, and the roses will be lovely climbing up again.
Happy Monday!
Thank you Veronica. We chose the plants and son and his staff planted them, a few have died and we will replace them mostly likely in our spring.
DeleteSo beautiful! I wish i had one like this at my house
ReplyDeleteYou never know you might one day. Even plants in pots can look very nice.
DeleteThis is gorgeous. The front of your home is so pretty and the hedge adds such a wonderful appeal.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nicole.
DeleteVery beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne.
DeleteIt looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteWow ma che casa meravigliosa avete 😍
ReplyDeleteQuell' angolo di giardino è stupendo, mi piacerebbe molto fare una cosa simile
Thank you Stefania. We chose different plants that grow low due to the windows being there.
DeleteThe front og your house looks so nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary.
DeleteThese grasses were popular in 90s. Now they are considered as pests though. Invasive root growth wrecks environment
ReplyDeleteYes they were popular back then and still some varieties are, but specifically rhizomes (underground stems) or stolons (above-ground runners)—that allow them to spread rapidly, form dense colonies, and outcompete other plants. So it's the matter of choosing the correct ones and keep an eye on them.
DeleteThat sounds like such a lovely transformation—there’s something really satisfying about seeing a garden settle in and mature a couple of years after a redesign. The Dwarf Nandinas are a great choice too; they give that neat structure while still keeping a soft, natural look. It must be nice to see everything filling out and coming together now.
