The first 8 years of marriage we lived on a farm, being a city girl back then I loved farm life. My late father in law was interested in horses but no one else in the family was except me, so he bought me a pony. I rode everyday early in the morning until she bolted after about 3 years of riding her. If she bolted again no one would find me if I was hurt because the farm had hills and valleys and I wouldn't be easily seen. So that was the end of that. Father in law just bred from her after that. (The photos are scanned)
These photos are old, the beach one was about 2008, the fishpond was after that. The only real old photo is of the pony.

I love the pond...why is it gone? What a pity! The pony looks really handsome.
ReplyDeleteThanks Angie. The pond went after many years as it leaked was repaired several times over the years but got beyond us. Time for a change.
DeleteI love seeing a picture of you and the pictures you posted.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary. I'm usually the one taking photos so therefore there are not a lot of photos of myself,
DeleteI enjoyed seeing all of these photographs.
ReplyDeleteThose water lilies are lovely.
All the best Jan
PS Happy June :)
Thanks Jan.
DeleteUy me enamore de tu perrito y tu caballo. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteAh ha ! ( think a curry-combing of the mane was in order.
ReplyDeleteI loved my "Twilight" - a grey mare who had a mind of her own but we
did win ribbons in the pole racing events at the pony club and show events.
Ah those were the days my friend as the song says.
One morning as the sun was coming up I got up - naughty boy - and got on her
for a ride along the river bank - over the logs until Twilight - enough of this rubbish
and stopped at a long - i win over - she remined - knocked myself out and woke
to have her nose on my face and what turned out to be broken ribs!
Crawled back on and home and into bed.
Time then for waking up for school - but mother saw I was in agony so I was allowed to stay in bed and a note for my sister, Lynette, to give to my cruel nun teacher, who I recall the next year was arrested to her cruelty. Brutal bitch!
Thankfully the Moree hot baths and pool were closed for cleaning so
my secret was safe - Still to the amazement of my doctors the now refromed
bones ate back in place with a horse foot print!
Ah those were the days!
Very nice garden.
Not too cold here this morning but my nose doesn't know that - ha ha!
Cheers
Colin
I brought back memories for you with my horse. Must of been painful with broken ribs, never had any broken myself as yet!
DeleteThanks re garden it looks much the same today but of course without the pond.
Chilly today here.
Some spelling mistakes! - aka - I win over - I WENT OVER!
ReplyDeleteaka - the now refromed - THE NOW REFORMED !
Colin
Got it, Colin.
DeleteI was delighted to see your old photos and so nice to see you in one of them with your sweet Shih Tzu. A beautiful horse too with an equally beautiful mane, and a shame she bolted but safety comes first and tough decisions have to be made. Loved the look of your pond and those water lilies were gorgeous. Thanks for sharing them Margaret!
ReplyDeleteIt's my pleasure to share these photos and memories, Denise.
DeleteI use to brush the dog everyday and groom him too, wash his face a couple of time a day with that long hair he had. I loved the horse, but that is life we move on to something else, I used to groom some of the horses my father in law had.
Your backyard looked great.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember seeing a stony beach in Tasmania. When there is one, boy is it stony.
Thanks Andrew, it's much to same now but without the pond.
DeleteTurners Beach was the beach, but when the tide was out and it goes way out all sand. People used to ride horses along there when the tide was out.
Your backyard with the waterlilies are so beautiful. I have tried to grow them here, but they will not bloom. The horse was wonderful too, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marit. Shame you can't grow waterlilies, but you do grow so many wonderful plants, it's a credit to you.
Thank you, Stefania. Always good to love animals and enjoy their company I think.
DeleteHello Margaret
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to reminisce about the good old days! Such sentimental photos are so captivating. That pool with the fish is charming. I also noticed a table and chairs there, not to mention the lovely water lilies; it was the perfect place to spend time together.
It's lovely to see your surroundings. Best regards and I wish you much joy in the new month. This is a special month for me, because the days are the longest.
You enjoy your long days 😉.
DeleteNothing like the good old days. Yes a table and chair and we have newer ones now but have always spent a lot of our nice days sitting outside in the season, even on a good winter's day.
Thank you.
What beautiful photos of the pond, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteI think the water lilies are amazing, such beautiful colors.
All the best, Irma
Thank you Iram. It was always pleasant to look out the back door, or when putting the washing on the clothesline or sitting in the shade to view the pool and feed the fish - they are hard or were hard to count.
DeleteI never knew there were so MANY different water lily flowers. Most of the ones in our wetlands are the yellow balls, with just a few flat white ones. These are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill. There are purple ones, pinker ones and there are the ones that grow in our tropics up north, different colours.
DeleteYes, you didn’t have a cell phone back then to let people know your whereabouts. I imagine that it must have been scary when the horse bolted.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, David, no mobile phones interesting because we all manage without them. I was over the fence rather quickly when the horse bolted, it had been a rough night before and something spooked her obviously. I didn't get hurt, fell on soft grass.
DeleteDo you have a horse now?
ReplyDeleteNo Hels I don't. We live in the city, but some people do have horses out on other people's farms that live in the city, so a city does not stop people. My father took me to riding lessons when I was about 8 years old, it's something I never forgot. However, I did Ballet and other types of dancing/acting as time went on.
DeleteWoW new design...is this from that blogger? Beautiful pictures and yes, I love water lilies...Hug, Andreja
ReplyDeleteWell the garden is the old design and in our backyard, very similar today but no pond.
DeleteThank you.
Bello trabajo. Las flores acuaticas son preciosas.
ReplyDeleteThank you, the flowers are nice.
DeleteMy dream was always to have a horse. Nice that you did for awhile. These photos are excellent. Love seeing you and you back yard pond is lovely. Have a very nice day today.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nicole. I love animals as so many of us do.
DeleteWhat lovely memories!
ReplyDeleteIt was such an enjoyable read.
: )
Thank you and for me it was so good to remember.
DeleteHave a nice week.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne, you too.
Noke
Aways looked forward to the waterlilies coming into flower but of course they are now gone. Yes, good memories.
DeleteHello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteNice pictures.
Special to see that old picture of that horse and read about the past.
And great to see that backyard with goldfish pool. Nice lilies.
Many greetings,
Marco
Thanks Marco. The post gives an Insite to what I once did for a few years and how the garden/backyard looked some years ago.
DeleteBeautiful photos, dear Margaret! I really love the photo of you with your little Shih Tzu as well! You look radiant! I have always loved lilies, lotus and the water!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, that photo of me and my little dogs, so long ago - such a sweet creature too.
DeleteYour backyard was beautiful, the pony too.
ReplyDeleteThank you R. Backyard is still the same but without the pond.
DeleteMargaret, I really enjoyed seeing these old photos.
ReplyDeleteYour pony was striking with that flowing mane, though I understand why you had to stop riding after she bolted.
The pond with the lilies looked enchanting too, even if it’s gone now.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful memories and that beautiful photo of yourself.
It's a pleasure Veronica. I don't often share the backyard here at home or even photos of myself, usually it's me taking the photo.
DeleteThank you.
I liked these old photos are lovely
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo-Anne.
DeleteWonderful pictures, so nice the flowers!
ReplyDeleteMany greetings
Thank you.
DeleteHorse is looking good. The lotus is so beautiful too
ReplyDeleteThank you. She was a beautiful horse.
To my brzy vstoupíme do léta! 😉
Yes winter is here now thought it's not that cold as yet, no snow on the mountains either.
DeleteWe don't have any native ungulates here; however, many animals were brought here by settlers on the big ships when Australia was settled.
Always was good to open the back door and see the pond, the fish and lilies.
What a nice pond and the water lillies are absolutely beautiful. The dog is very cute but it probably knows that. :) Have a wonderful month of June, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill. Yes the dog knew, he always had his nose up in the air - that's their breed.
DeleteVery nice place and photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteDear Margaret ,you had such lovely in laws ,father in law particularly was amazingly supportive! I can only imagine your joy to own a hours 🥰 riding it regardless must be awesome experience 👍
ReplyDeleteSorry for the mishap and sad that you had to quit riding horse ,but in a way it was worth taking decision which involved your personal safety!
Omg your once back yard looks piece from heaven 🥹😍👌♥️
Glorious and such a beautiful place wow !
These lilies shots are gorgeous and very elegantly taken 👍♥️
The lilies were always lovely to see in bloom, Baili.
DeleteI did have a wonderful father in law and a beautiful caring mother in law too - I was so very lucky.
beautiful Beautiful BEAUTIFUL
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs ,
Cheers
Thank you.
DeleteSo sweet for your father in law to buy you a pony.. Those lilies were beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Hena. I was very lucky to have such good in laws, always loved them.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous place! Your space looks just like a garden full of life.
ReplyDeleteThank you and yes the garden is still full of life even though it's near enough winter.
ReplyDeleteYes lovely memories, they are good to have. Very lucky to have such a wonderful in laws, both of them.
DeleteThank you.
What a beautiful house! That pool and pond are wonderful places to live and enjoy the surroundings. As for the horse, I personally have had little experience with them, and what I have had has been bad, although my family, almost all my uncles and aunts, had horses and mules. But once I fell off one, fortunately without injury, and I vowed never to fall off again.
ReplyDeleteRegards.
Thank you. I can understand you not wanting to get back on the horse, I got back on the next on another horse with family there to see if I was ok 😉
DeleteOh very beautiful photos darling
ReplyDeleteAmazing post
Thank you.
DeleteMemories are good, and I understand very well about this amazing place in your beautiful garden.
ReplyDeleteGreetings by Heidrun
Abrazos.
ReplyDeleteIt feels so good to remember good memories, and photos capture special moments forever.
ReplyDeleteThe pony your father-in-law bought for you was so beautiful.
Your photo on the beach is very pretty.
I loved the fish pond with the water lilies.
I'm glad that you got to enjoy riding her for at least a little while.
