My horse, my Dog, our Pond.

The first 8 years of marriage we lived on a farm, being a city girl back then I loved farm life.  My late father in law was interested in horses but no one else in the family was except me, so he bought me a pony.  I rode everyday early in the morning until she bolted after about 3 years of riding her.  If she bolted again no one would find me if I was hurt because the farm had hills and valleys and I wouldn't be easily seen.  So that was the end of that.  Father in law just bred from her after that.  (The photos are scanned)

These photos are old, the beach one was about 2008, the fishpond was after that. The only real old photo is of the pony.

The photo is of me at a beach with lots of pebbles taking my little Shih Tzu for a walk which I did several times each day.   The place is Turners Beach on the north west coast here in Tasmania.  We used to take our caravan (the first one) in the wintertime on our weekend off if we could get away from our business.

The above photo is our once backyard when we had a goldfish pool.  It's gone now. Photos of the lilies.

  5. Ah ha ! ( think a curry-combing of the mane was in order.
I loved my "Twilight" - a grey mare who had a mind of her own but we
did win ribbons in the pole racing events at the pony club and show events.
Ah those were the days my friend as the song says.
One morning as the sun was coming up I got up - naughty boy - and got on her
for a ride along the river bank - over the logs until Twilight - enough of this rubbish
and stopped at a long - i win over - she remined - knocked myself out and woke
to have her nose on my face and what turned out to be broken ribs!
Crawled back on and home and into bed.
Time then for waking up for school - but mother saw I was in agony so I was allowed to stay in bed and a note for my sister, Lynette, to give to my cruel nun teacher, who I recall the next year was arrested to her cruelty. Brutal bitch!
Thankfully the Moree hot baths and pool were closed for cleaning so
my secret was safe - Still to the amazement of my doctors the now refromed
bones ate back in place with a horse foot print!
    Ah those were the days!
    Very nice garden.
Not too cold here this morning but my nose doesn't know that - ha ha!
    Cheers

  7. I was delighted to see your old photos and so nice to see you in one of them with your sweet Shih Tzu. A beautiful horse too with an equally beautiful mane, and a shame she bolted but safety comes first and tough decisions have to be made. Loved the look of your pond and those water lilies were gorgeous. Thanks for sharing them Margaret!

I use to brush the dog everyday and groom him too, wash his face a couple of time a day with that long hair he had. I loved the horse, but that is life we move on to something else, I used to groom some of the horses my father in law had.

I don't remember seeing a stony beach in Tasmania. When there is one, boy is it stony.

Turners Beach was the beach, but when the tide was out and it goes way out all sand. People used to ride horses along there when the tide was out.

  11. Hello Margaret
It's so nice to reminisce about the good old days! Such sentimental photos are so captivating. That pool with the fish is charming. I also noticed a table and chairs there, not to mention the lovely water lilies; it was the perfect place to spend time together.
It's lovely to see your surroundings. Best regards and I wish you much joy in the new month. This is a special month for me, because the days are the longest.

Nothing like the good old days. Yes a table and chair and we have newer ones now but have always spent a lot of our nice days sitting outside in the season, even on a good winter's day.
      Thank you.

  13. I never knew there were so MANY different water lily flowers. Most of the ones in our wetlands are the yellow balls, with just a few flat white ones. These are wonderful.

  14. Yes, you didn’t have a cell phone back then to let people know your whereabouts. I imagine that it must have been scary when the horse bolted.

    1. You are correct, David, no mobile phones interesting because we all manage without them. I was over the fence rather quickly when the horse bolted, it had been a rough night before and something spooked her obviously. I didn't get hurt, fell on soft grass.

    1. No Hels I don't. We live in the city, but some people do have horses out on other people's farms that live in the city, so a city does not stop people. My father took me to riding lessons when I was about 8 years old, it's something I never forgot. However, I did Ballet and other types of dancing/acting as time went on.

To my brzy vstoupíme do léta! 😉

    1. Yes winter is here now thought it's not that cold as yet, no snow on the mountains either.
We don't have any native ungulates here; however, many animals were brought here by settlers on the big ships when Australia was settled.
Always was good to open the back door and see the pond, the fish and lilies.

  33. What a beautiful house! That pool and pond are wonderful places to live and enjoy the surroundings. As for the horse, I personally have had little experience with them, and what I have had has been bad, although my family, almost all my uncles and aunts, had horses and mules. But once I fell off one, fortunately without injury, and I vowed never to fall off again.
