Early Cheer Daffodils (Narcissus tazetta) are multi-headed known for their intense, sweet fragrance and frothy, creamy white double blooms. They are supposed to flower late winter to early spring but have just started coming out now in my garden, and some not as yet - and it's late autumn! I've often found some of them in bloom in May.
The Discovery of 'Erilicheer' the variety was first recognized by Alan Gibson in 1934, a leading commercial daffodil grower in Marton, New Zealand. It was initially thought to be a seedling, but it is now widely accepted by daffodil experts as a sport (a natural genetic mutation) of the tazetta variety known as White Pearl.
Gibson catalogued the flower as 'Erlicheer' a spelling and name that remains highly popular today, though it is commonly referred to in English as 'Early Cheer' due to it's quick blooming habit.

A gorgeous series of captures, dear Margaret. ❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda.
DeleteBeautiful variety of white flower in your garden.
ReplyDeleteThanks Giorgio.
DeleteThere are some lovely pictures of daffodils that you have photographed. They are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Margaret.
Thank you Marit.
Deletewow They look so lovely!
ReplyDeleteI think they do too, Angie.
DeleteI've never heard of this flower... Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely flower. Interesting you have never heard of it!
ReplyDeleteSaludos.
Yes they are as I agree with you, and I love the perfume they send as you walk past, or even if I put them in a vase inside the smell to me is good.
DeleteSo pretty. I love flowers.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure most of us love flowers, Mary. I know I do too.
DeleteThey are beautiful, and what a strange time of the year to flower.
ReplyDeleteI meant to put autumn, have now fixed! Well they seem to be a bit earlier than usual, Andrew.
DeleteUy que lindos, te enamoran. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteYes, love them J.P.
DeleteThank you.
They are very pretty to look at but I am glad I can't smell them. I think you meant to type "it's late autumn" not "late spring"?
ReplyDeleteThanks R. Yes, I did mean to put late autumn, so I've now fixed it, thanks for that 😉
DeleteBeautiful photos of the daffodils, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteWhere we are, they bloom in March.
I wish you a lovely Wednesday.
All the best, Irma
Thank you Iram. The daffodils in our area will be a good while yet before the bloom, but gradually different types will bloom till springtime.
DeleteBeautiful in either spelling!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThese are very pretty, I love your third photo. Spring seemed to pass us by in our corner of England. My magnolias didn't flower and my olive tree is still considering whether this will be its first year to produce olives.
ReplyDeleteHope your olive tree does produces this year for you, will be exciting if it does. So I guess you have had a short spring. I hear it's become rather warm over your way.
DeleteVery beautiful indeed. A cheerful start to my day.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they helped, David.
DeleteMuito lindo!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteVery beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne.
DeleteI love your daffodils Margaret, they're beautiful! Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteIt's my pleasure Denise and thank you.

ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures. Wonderful these beautiful flowers.
Many greetings,
Marco
Thank you Marco and a lovely scent too.
DeleteLovely to see your photographs of these beautiful daffodils.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you Jan.
DeleteVery beautiful. They are starting to bloom in the big park opposite where I
ReplyDeletelive and also in the gardens in my residual place. The ones in my garden which
is quite small have not blossomed yet.
Yesterday at Terrigal Beach only one hardy full wet suited person out - and was he ever being tossed about. Should have heaps of aches and pains!!!
A ferocious storm last night until about midnight. Even washed my enclosed porch which can be hit from the western side.
Fun and games at the Terrigal Pub yesterday when a younger Colin accused me
of buying all the Orange Slice biscuits from Coles - the staff are highly amused so today I have two packs the biscuits and it will be a case of " ON GUARD MONSUIER".
Details later - ha ha!
Cheers
Colin - the Musketeer
Lol, re biscuits.
DeleteInteresting that the daffodils are beginning to bloom up your way.
Rough in the sea it seems up there, it rained here yesterday on and off but a good rain however, down our east coast they had more.
He chickened out - so I won and now have a months supply of Orange slice!!!
DeleteTerrible weather here - poured last night.
And "Heavens forbid" - a pub free week coming up as I'll be occupied with
eating Orange Slice! ha ha.
Cheers
Colin
Well the things is, do you like orange slice! We have had a fine day bit chilly 17 deg C, no wind but morning fog that lasted for hours, sun out now at 4pm.
DeleteI most certainly do - maybe as a much young tennis player I was good / successful at the slice. BUT - the tennis balls were YELLOW / WHITE !!!
DeleteOrange coloured after a set or two????
Cheers
Colin aka ROGER FEDERER / RAFA NADAL !!!!!!
This is such an interesting post and such a beautiful flower. You are so fortunate to have these in your garden. Thank you for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pleasure Nicole.
DeleteA stunning series of captures, Margaret 🌸.
ReplyDeleteI hadn’t heard of Erlicheer before, so it’s lovely to discover it through your photos.
Such elegant blooms!
Thank you Veronica. A good smell is attached with the Early Cheer.
DeleteThey are very pretty
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYour daffodils are beautiful, Margaret and your photos of them just stunning!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pauline.
ReplyDeleteYes, opposite seasons makes gardening rather interesting. We look forward to seeing snow from the northern hemisphere in our summer..
DeleteBeautiful photos and flowers. Have a wonderful day Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill.
DeleteWhat a beautiful pictures you posted!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteSuch lovely flowers
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo-Anne.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lucimar.
DeleteI wish a nice morning and send a Friday hug!
ReplyDeleteThank you Modrina.
DeleteSo gorgeous!
ReplyDelete: )
😉Thanks.
DeleteSeeing those creamy white, frothy blooms pop up in late autumn must be such a delightful surprise, even if they are technically jumping the gun on winter. The fact that the 'Erlicheer' is actually a natural genetic mutation from the White Pearl variety makes its history just as unique as its flowering habits. That intense, sweet fragrance is exactly the kind of sensory boost a garden needs when the cooler months start settling in. It really lives up to its name by bringing a bit of early cheer right when the rest of the landscape is winding down.
ReplyDeleteThat is all true Melody.
DeleteWie interessant.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I've had the Early Cheer bloom in May before, but it is usually a bit later, however they brighten up the garden before the winter truly comes.
DeleteHappy weekend my Margaret, HUG
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Juvenal Nunes
Thank you. They look even better when they bloom in mass.
DeleteAn interesting and very pretty plant, the flowering time probably depends on the soil and air temperature, which affects the development of each plant. Kind regards, Jasna
ReplyDeleteStill trying to wrap my head around the fact that it's Late Autumn there! Wow...
ReplyDeleteThe flower is Gorgeous!!
hugs
Donna
Lovely flowers. Thanks for sharing. I haven't seen this type before.
ReplyDeleteThey indeed are one of the prettiest blooms I’ve ever seen 🥰
ReplyDeleteLook soothing and your mention of fragrance makes me smile when look at them 🥹
You are incredible photographer and it’s weird habit surely of the flower to bloom in two completely opposite seasons like autumn and May
ReplyDeleteThey are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos.
those are pretty. They look soft and airy yet strong at the same time.
