A pleasant area is Mission Beach, it's away from the cities and is much quieter. Populations of about 1,000 people and several resorts to stay in if one wishes.
Crocodiles are present in the Mission Beach area, as it's considered 'croc country' in tropical Queensland, with both freshwater and estuarine species living in the region's waterways, around all water bodies, especially after high tides or heavy rain. Swimming, yes you can but be aware of those 'stingers' that are in the sea water in the months of summer. It's fairly safe to swim between the flags on patrolled beaches there.
You can see Dunk Island, Bederra Island, Wheeler Island, Coombe Island, and Bowden Island, and I think there are a few more as well.
Where all the markers are is where Mission Beach is.

Lovely sandy beach! Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteThank you and you too.
DeleteIt looks very beautiful there. The beach looks so peaceful.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely there when we were there, Marit. No one about either but it was winter and warm because it's in the tropics.
DeleteHello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful place. Great to see that large view over that beautiful landscape.
Nice pictures!!
Many greetings,
Marco
Thank you Marco. It's a wide open area so it felt good to be there.
DeleteUna bella serie de imagenes de un espacio paradisiaco.
ReplyDeleteUn saludo, amiga
Thank you Ildefonso. It is a lovely area.
DeleteEvery creature had a reason for being on earth. But did the crocodile ever have a purpose that we know about? Or was it just a godly joke over millions of years?
ReplyDeleteThat is very true Hels.
DeleteCrocodiles play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and in Australia, they are protected species essential to the biodiversity of northern tropical waterways. These are native apex predators that evolved over 200 million years ago to manage wetland ecosystems, prevent overpopulation of certain species. Answer via the Internet, Hels.
Margaret, answering Helgs' curiosity, I will say that they play a crucial role in aquatic ecosystems. There are various organizations and programs dedicated to the conservation of crocodiles around the world. These initiatives include habitat protection, trade regulation, and education about the importance of these reptiles in ecosystems.
ReplyDeleteThat is right Norma, I just googled and received similar if not same answer as you did. :)
DeleteIt is so weird to see a post from the future! Your posts are always so interesting as your world is so different than ours.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting you class the post from the future :)
DeleteThank you and yes, it seems Australia is very different from your country. Your world always looks different too when I see your posts, and read what you have written, so interesting for me.
I would like to run along that beautiful beaches. Easy to see that natural environment is well protected. Thank you for sharing such a lovely photo-tour.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
G.
You are welcome, Giorgio. We called into Mission Beach on one of our travels, it's a very long way from home. Lovely flat beach from memory.
DeleteSo clean and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know all our beaches are clean Angie. Everyone of them we have been to, there are always rubbish bins nearby and people usually use them.
DeleteI love that sculpture of the Cassowary. Very interesting map and the photos show the beauty of this area. Interesting information too. Thanks very much Margaret!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that sculpture is still there, Denise, I doubt it.
DeleteYou are welcome.
Dear Margaret, what gorgeous and captivating views! Thank you so much for sharing, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Linda.
DeleteThat beach looks so nice. We don't have a beach here in Nevada but there is a lake. It's just not the same.
ReplyDeleteA lake is good to have when there is no sea around or near, at least it's water and probably has a picnic area and so on, hopefully it does, Mary and no, it's not the same as a beach and the sea.
DeleteI went swimming at Mission Beach in the 1970s and I don't remember any croc or stinger warning signs. I must have been lucky to have to survive.
ReplyDeleteBack then there were probably no signs at all Andrew, and I guess they the authorities thought people would use there common sense, don't always thing people use their common sense these days and no offence meant for to anyone :)
DeleteWe didn't see any crocs when we were there and I doubt if many people do or did. It's just the fact that Mission Beach is in the tropics and any place in the tropics that has water/sea water/rivers and so on, be on the lookout.
Mission Beach is a beautifully quiet tropical escape, with stunning island views and safe swimming
ReplyDeleteI'd say relative safe to swim, maybe there are nets in the sea to help keep people safe from stingers and we didn't see any crocs there when we visited a few years back, and never heard of any being there either - it's all just a warning incase.
DeleteHave stayed at that resort a couple of times with college mates and former PNG
ReplyDeletemates. It is pricey but good food etc.
Went surfing with no surf!!! But not at dawn or dusk - crocodile and shark feeding time and there are signs telling tourists this but I'm bloody sure that they are RARELY
READ!
Good weather here at last in Terrigal and thank GOD - kids back at school
next week!
Cheers
Colin
Would be good to stay in one the resorts there, Colin. We didn't see any crocs or stingers there and the sea is rather flat from memory.
DeleteAh! the children go back to school later next week down here, the public schools, private a bit later.
We are having summer and it's good, rather sticky today as the humidity is up for us.
Bella playa. Me gustaría visitarla. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteMany beautiful beaches in Australia J.P.
DeleteThank you and same to you.
When I was younger and still working I planned on retiring at Mission Beach, but then the factory closed and grandchildren came along so I've stayed right here. I don't think I'd want to retire there now that I know about the crocodiles.
ReplyDeleteBe a good place to retire too R. Nice and quiet most of the time I presume.
DeleteWe never saw any crocs when we were there, never heard of any being there, it's the tropics so it's expected to see them.
I enjoyed seeing all of your photographs and isn't the sculpture of the Cassowary amazing.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
It is a nice sculpture, and we were rather surprised to see it there too, Jan.
DeleteHi Margaret,
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, and what a wonderful place this is.
Beautiful scenery with the mountains.
I wish you a wonderful weekend.
All the best, Irma
Thank you Irma. At least there are mountain views from shore and not just the sea with nothing to see, so to speak.
DeleteTake care.
It does look like a place I'd love to spend time exploring.
ReplyDeleteLots to explore around there Bill. Nice place.
DeleteI am not a swimmer so I’d be quite happy staying out of the water.
ReplyDeleteI had a paddle, I can't go to a beach and not stick my toes in the water, that's just me. I believe everyone should learn to swim, maybe you can swim, I can to save myself and used to do a far bit of it when much younger.
DeleteDer Strand sieht gut aus Schwimmen mit Krokodilen ist sehr interessant.
ReplyDeleteGruß
Noke
We didn't see any crocs, Noke and if seen you go to safety away from them.
DeleteSplendid beach near where you live dear friend 🥰👍
ReplyDeleteThank you for gorgeous photos of water,so serene and captivating 🥹
Crocodiles? Sounds bit scary 🫢😊
♥️
Baili, Mission Beach is a very long way from where we live, we visited there on one of our holidays a few years ago. We didn't see any crocodiles, it's just that that particular beach is in the tropic of Australia so one expect to see a crocodile or two, we never did see any at all.
DeleteI miss the beach! What a beautiful view. Stay away from crocs!
ReplyDeleteI love the beach and always have done, the sea too.
DeleteI hope stingers never come into the swimming area.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope they don't. I haven't heard of any being there close to shore as yet.
DeleteMargaret these are some stunning photos. The beach here on the Oregon coast is horribly cold all year round so not many people venture out. Not the locals anyway. Have a lovely day today.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pity the sea is cold all the year, one would think it would get a bit warmer in the summer time.
DeleteThank you and you too.
Beautiful photos of a beautiful beach. I would love to take a walk there and explore.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to take a walk there, Bill, we did and enjoyed it back when we were there.
DeletePretty beaches. Crocs you say. Think that would keep me from wanting to swim. Currently in South Carolina where gators are very common place. You see them almost daily, and they've had troubles with them going after people's pets. Hopefully you don't have that issue with your crocs.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
We didn't see any crocs and I think it's just be alert incase there is one.
DeleteI'm not aware that we have those same issues with our crocs, Sandy. Where we live it's too cold for crocs to live and they only live way up north in the tropics.
This beautiful beach is ideal and has a touch of melancholy; it must be a real treat to swim there.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Best regards.
It's a lovely beach and one can have a good walk on it as we did.
DeleteA Austrália é uma enorme área geográfica, em que impera a biodiversidade.
ReplyDeleteAbraço de amizade.
Juvenal Nunes
Yes it is a big area, and I often wonder do many people travel through Europe as we have travelled through Australia.
DeleteUna bellissima spiaggia decisamente "selvaggia".
ReplyDeleteYes it is a lovely beach and nice area to visit or stay, maybe both.
DeleteEin wunderbarer Strand. Ich würde gern die tropische Gefahr von Krokodilen gegen unseren Schnee tauschen.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine that, though I like to see the snow and would miss your lovely photos if you didn't live in the snow :)
DeleteUna playa preciosa, me encantaría pasear por ella. Abrazos.
ReplyDeleteIt was good to do that, Teresa.
DeleteNever heard of it but that's not surprising considering how many beaches we have around the country
ReplyDeleteWe sure do have many beaches, Jo-Anne. Mission Beach was once very popular.
DeleteWhat a wonderful place ❤️ I just wouldn't go into the water because with crocodiles around, I wouldn't risk it.
ReplyDeleteI loved the background of your blog with the roses, it's beautiful.
Thank you Maria, thought I would put roses there from one of my photos from the garden and make a background for Valentine's Day/month.
DeleteYou most likely wouldn't see a croc at all in the water there, it just sounds as if you would when written or if someone was telling you. It's just beware really.
Seeing Dunk Island just offshore is such a tease if you don't hop on the water taxi those rainforest trails on the island are incredible. Plus, spotting a cassowary in the wild there is basically a rite of passage.
ReplyDeleteI'm told it's very nice on Dunk Island and it's only 4 km from the mainland.
DeleteWonderful. We'd really love to visit Australia one day.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you can and will :)

ReplyDeleteBig Hugs ,
Cheers
Oh well who knows one day you might visit.
DeleteIt is a good beach regardless.
Precioso y tranquilo lugar Margaret. Así me gustan sin aglomeración.
ReplyDeleteBuena semana.
Un abrazo.
Yes it is quiet there especially in the winter when we have been there, Laura.
DeleteBeautiful photos of a beautiful part of the world. On cold winter days I dream of being there. Not now though, not in summer. 30C today - too hot for me!
ReplyDeleteAlways good to be by the beach in our summer. You had a hot day then, Pauline we had 27 deg C.
DeleteLooks like such a tranquil escape.
ReplyDeleteLove the quiet sands and tropical warmth.
Those islands on the horizon sound like paradise.
Glorious photos as always, Margaret!
Thank you, Veronica. Lovely area to visit or stay for a while, and a nice boat trip across to the Islands.
DeleteNos has mostrado imagenes de un bello paraiso.
ReplyDeleteUn saludo, amiga
Thank you, Ildefonso.
DeleteJsem tu dnes poprvé a obdivuji krásné fotografie a zajímavé místo, které mohu najít jen na mapě. Vrátím se prohlížet další články. Zdravím z Evropy. 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you.
