80 Mile Beach, Western Australia.

Eighty Mile Beach is a 220 klm stretch of white sand in Western Australia, located halfway between Broome and Port Hedland.  It is a popular spot for fishing and shell collecting, known for its spectacular sunsets and as a vital wetland for migratory birds and a nesting ground for flatback turtles.  Due to risk of jellyfish, sharks, and crocodiles, swimming is not recommended, although some visitors use the caravan park for a base to enjoy the surroundings..

We have stayed at 80 miles beach a few times and enjoyed it.  Walked along part of the beach, collected shells and watched the sunsets.  The area is rather isolated being rather hot in the winter when we travelled there each time with no humidity.

The photo of the Flatback Turtle (borrowed) and it spends 99.5% of its time in Australia.

    1. It is ever so big that beach and each time we've been there we had beautiful weather and hardly any wind.
      Thank you, Marit.

  2. That beach looks incredible. Walking the shore and collecting shells must be so relaxing. Seeing the flatback turtles in their natural habitat makes it even more special.

    1. Oh, Melody, I did have fun collecting shells and I still have them.
We never saw any turtles but great to know they come there.

  3. I would enjoy being there, but it's sad to see those tyre tracks on the sand. I shudder to think of the microscopic organisms crushed beneath the wheels of those vehicles.

    1. A lot of people gather there David as there is nothing much between there and Broome. Very isolated. The beach is very long and people don't travel along the sand too far.

    1. Thank you. It's a special place there, many people gather in the winter, sit around the campfire, talk about their adventures and it's always friendly.

    1. How right you are, a place in the middle of nowhere too. It's not often we in Australia get the opportunity to take sunset photos in our west and over the sea.

  11. I see Marble Bar on the map. Yes, it must be very hot in that area, but better than humidity. There are quite a few people on the beach.

    1. Haven't been to Marble Bar, I'm told that the rocks as in colours are amazing there and ever so hot.
Many people at 80-mile beach walk in the evening time along the beach instead of the daytime in winter.

    1. Wonderful coast line in W.A as you say Hels, and a long drive to some of the inland places and further up north but it's well worth it, well it was for us.

  13. It looks beautiful there and winter is definitely the best time to visit with no humidity then. I'd like to see it one day and Marble Bar too.

  14. Hello Margaret
There really is so much to admire and so much to walk around. As you well know, I'm always most captivated by these vast spaces, the unlimited visibility to the horizon. And that lovely sunset.
For now, I don't have any sun here; the days are very short, gray, cold, and unpleasant, so I look at your wonderful paintings with great delight and joy.
