It's a special day today, my husband has reached a milestone as in birthdays. We are going out to dinner this evening with family and friends for his OBE, = 80th.
Rainbow Lorikeets are found in the Eastern seaboard of Australia including South Australia and Perth in Western Australia a pretty parrot. They when in flock are rather noisy especially around dusk. They eat fruit, seeds, insects and so on. Both male and female are the same.
These photos were taken in Bowen in Queensland.
What beautiful photos, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteWe call this species rainbow lories.
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma. They certainly have many colours.
DeleteThey are gorgeous, Margaret. Beautiful photos. ❤️

ReplyDeleteI just loved looking at them, sooo pretty and you captured them awesomely 👍👍👍♥️
You are most welcome, such a pretty parrot. Thank you.
DeleteHappy Birthday to your husband, Margaret! You have taken very beautiful photos of the parrots. Do you know the name of the pink flowers?
ReplyDeleteThank you Marit. The pink flower/tree is called a Corymbia ficifolia and it's a native of Australia. Belong to the family of Myrtaceae. A common name is a flowering gum. It will tolerate a light frost. Hope that helps.
DeleteIt is so exciting to read about the flowers that grow in Australia. I don't know it, but it is very beautiful. Thank you for your answer, Margaret.
DeleteYou are welcome.
DeleteHappy Birthday to your husband!!! The photos are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie.
DeleteHappy birthday to your husband, hope he has a great day. I love seeing those beautiful coloured birds.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill.
DeleteHappy birthday to your husband !
ReplyDeleteThese birds are gorgeous.
Thank you, Catarina
DeleteWhat a wonderful milestone to celebrate, made even brighter by the cheerful Rainbow Lorikeets
ReplyDeleteThank you and yes, it's a big milestone and to be healthy is also good.
DeleteThat's terrific, so happy birthday to him.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good thing lorikeets stay still to eat, because of the speed they fly, you would barely ever see their colouring. They can be so noisy but also fun to watch.
Thank you Andrew. Had to photograph like most birds are, but they do dart about. Lucky I was sitting near the tea with camera ready.
DeleteVery noisy in mass, Andrew.
My lot didn't turn up this morning and I know they shouldn't be given
ReplyDeletetoast but they love it and let me know noisily if I haven't got some.
Only a few small slices - shared between them and the wood duck family - and
no ducklings yet. Must be soon !!!
The weather here has been great - looked like rain for a short time but
lovely now for my pub trip.
Tomorrow - the movies - Downton Abbey - the grand finale.
I will be sitting as far away from the talking brigade as possible!!
I don't know why they go????
Still young bucks who should be at school - HIGH SCHOOL ones - flashing around on their motorised water bikes. Sharks wouldn't have a hope in hell of catching them.
Cheers
Colin
Shame they didn't turn up, guess you miss them when they don't show themselves.
DeleteI rather like Downton Abbey and like to listen to the movie/series and not chatter from the peanut gallery.
Well young ones often wag school unfortunately; it depends on how often.
Querida Margaret, ¡Feliz cumpleaños a tu querido esposo!, los pájaros preciosos, parece una paleta de colores, me encantó .
ReplyDelete♥️Abrazos y te dejo besitos♥️ se feliz

DeleteWe have dozens of them around here right now, the spring hatchlings all making so much noise in the trees, but I can't see them as they are well hidden by the leaves. I'll probably spot a few as they grow bigger.
ReplyDeleteThey are hard to photograph like most birds R. They are really noisy as you say. Hope you get to see them, they are beautiful is a mass.
DeleteGorgeous photos of the rainbow parakeets. They have started to visit the village again and they are so noisy in the mornings and evenings.
ReplyDeleteThat's good, but I know their noise, deafening at times, yet so beautiful to look at.
DeleteBeautiful birds. I'm glad they can tell the difference between male and female-- I can't. 82 for me in about 4 weeks. Please give your guy my "welcome to the octogenarian club" best.
ReplyDeleteThanks and I will pass on to him. You are doing well :)
