The Parrots

It's a special day today, my husband has reached a milestone as in birthdays. We are going out to dinner this evening with family and friends for his OBE, = 80th.

Rainbow Lorikeets are found in the Eastern seaboard of Australia including South Australia and Perth in Western Australia a pretty parrot.  They when in flock are rather noisy especially around dusk. They eat fruit, seeds, insects and so on.  Both male and female are the same.

These photos were taken in Bowen in Queensland.

  5. Happy Birthday to your husband, Margaret! You have taken very beautiful photos of the parrots. Do you know the name of the pink flowers?

    1. Thank you Marit. The pink flower/tree is called a Corymbia ficifolia and it's a native of Australia. Belong to the family of Myrtaceae. A common name is a flowering gum. It will tolerate a light frost. Hope that helps.

  9. That's terrific, so happy birthday to him.

It is a good thing lorikeets stay still to eat, because of the speed they fly, you would barely ever see their colouring. They can be so noisy but also fun to watch.

    1. Thank you Andrew. Had to photograph like most birds are, but they do dart about. Lucky I was sitting near the tea with camera ready.
      Very noisy in mass, Andrew.

  10. My lot didn't turn up this morning and I know they shouldn't be given
toast but they love it and let me know noisily if I haven't got some.
Only a few small slices - shared between them and the wood duck family - and
no ducklings yet. Must be soon !!!
The weather here has been great - looked like rain for a short time but
lovely now for my pub trip.
Tomorrow - the movies - Downton Abbey - the grand finale.
I will be sitting as far away from the talking brigade as possible!!
I don't know why they go????
Still young bucks who should be at school - HIGH SCHOOL ones - flashing around on their motorised water bikes. Sharks wouldn't have a hope in hell of catching them.
    Cheers
    Colin

    1. Shame they didn't turn up, guess you miss them when they don't show themselves.
I rather like Downton Abbey and like to listen to the movie/series and not chatter from the peanut gallery.
Well young ones often wag school unfortunately; it depends on how often.

  13. We have dozens of them around here right now, the spring hatchlings all making so much noise in the trees, but I can't see them as they are well hidden by the leaves. I'll probably spot a few as they grow bigger.

Those parrots are so beautiful—I can see why they're called Rainbow Lorikeets. It's so interesting to learn that they're a bit noisy, too. Thanks for sharing a little bit about your special day and these beautiful birds.
