Ciao Margaret un saluto veloce per augurarti un buon ferragosto, da noi il 15 è festa della Madonna Assunta in cielo e ci sono molte processioni in tutto il territorio nazionale. Un abbraccio Angelo.
There are signs in every park in the world telling people not to feed the ducks and they universally have no effect! I think that a special gene is activated in grandparents that urges them, as an inherited obligation, to take their grandchildren to feed the ducks. And if there’s no enforcement of the regulation, as there seldom is, who’s to stop them?
Yes, who is to stop them. I supposed way in the past grandparents themselves fed the ducks so it's just been past on from generation to generation. I've never seen any one feeding the ducks at the Punchbowl since the signs went up years ago. I believe there is a hefty fine if people are caught doing to. Workers are usually around most days, so that's a good thing.
The birds seem to love the park at Punchbowl. I think the signs do make people think and maybe not give ducks too much to eat. One good sign, which I showed recently, said along the lines, If you must feed the birds, here are some foods which won't harm them. Naturally bread wasn't on the list.
That was a good sign then telling people what they can feed the ducks if they have to - I think I recall reading that sing on your blog. The ducks and so forth at the Punchbowl look nice and plump and healthy.
I have an idea that one or two may have been killed due to the road being near, and today I saw several ducks near the supermarket as there is the rivulet and lots of lawn, which is near the main road sunning themselves and in pools of water as well. All seemed good.
Beautiful photos of the ducks. It's better not to feed the ducks, bread is really bad for them. Here the ducks are fed, it's not really allowed, but many people don't seem to care. I wish you a nice weekend. Greetings Irma
Interesting variety of ducks. We had a muscovy female some decades ago. I found out they can mate with standard ducks, but the offspring are "mules." That's the end of the line. I enjoyed your post!!
Oh those ducks are so cute. It's so nice to have a place like that nearby where you can just go and enjoy nature. It's a shame you can't feed them but I guess that's for the best. Are there any other animals that you see at The Punchbowl.
Not good for their bodies is bread and other foods given to them by humans, Melody. We have seen kangaroos called wallabies which are smaller, and I guess there are several other animals around The Punchbowl area, now are houses so humans have invaded their territory.
I have a pair which come every morning and on the dot - 8.00am for some chips - they really like the bacon flavoured ones, They then come up on the porch for a head scratch - it is just so funny. Then in the afternoon another visit and no food. They are NOT amused a la Elizabeth Mountbatten of Buck House fame! Also visits from little noisy parrots - they even sit on my drink - milk, cordial, beer or scotch. Preference is SCOTCH !!!! Terrigal restaurants jam packed this morning and some type of beach racing ??? must be going to take place - flags and lines all marked out. The surf itself is as flat as a small kids pool!!! Nice and sunny here AT LAST today. Cheers Colin
Been lovely here the last few days too. Well action down at the beach it seems, good for business at the restaurants. Nice tale re your ducks and parrots. I wonder do the parrots have a sip of scotch?
Hi Margaret. Before I forget: New series: “Outlander: Blood of my Blood” is a prequel of “Outlander”, about Jamie’s parents and Claire’s parents. In Australia is streaming exclusively on Stan. In case you are interested. : )
Oh, thanks you. I'm interested, of course :) Yes, I have been watching on Stan. Thank you for thinking of me. I easily could have missed it being on, I saw it advertised on FB!
There are so many kinds of duck, which are being kept well as wild birds. It would be not easy for human feelings to draw a sharp line between wildness and mercy.
They certainly do get fined if they are caught. Easy to catch someone these days with cameras of other people who take videos, or photos then present it to the right people!
I also raised a few ducks at one time, along with chickens. Of course, these were tame ducks – the domestic kind. They always walked together, in groups, and none of them ever got separated from the others. Ducks grow quickly and make great backyard companions. Maybe I'll have a few again sometime soon. Great post. Best regards.
Beautiful shots! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteDespite you are not permitted to feed the ducks., I think the ducks can seek and find food for themselves
ReplyDeleteYes they can find food for themselves but I believe that the 'council' feed them from time to time with the correct food.
DeleteGorgeous captures of these beautiful ducks, Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda.
DeleteWonderful photos Margaret! I love to watch ducks, they can be very comical.
ReplyDeleteThey are a delight to watch as any creatures are Denise.

DeleteBeautiful photos of these gorgeous ducks,
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill. Helps when we have good subjects.
DeleteI would have never thought you are not permitted to feed the ducks. These are marvelous creatures.
ReplyDeleteFor many years now there are signs up saying not to feed the ducks. Most people used to give them bread and ducks can't tolerate bread.
DeleteThey look content enough without handouts, enjoying the Punchbowl just as nature intended
ReplyDeleteThey do look content and nice and plump, they are doing well.

ReplyDeleteVery true Diane.
DeleteLovely things - with some glorious colours.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed EC. Birds do have beautiful colours no matter what type.
DeleteUnas imagenes idilicas, sin duda, amiga
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ildefonso.
DeleteI hope the ducks don't wander onto the roads. Cars wouldn't even notice them :(

Thank you, Irma. Such a shame people still feed your ducks but maybe not as many people do, so that would be a help.

They most certainly do.
DeleteGood God - it would be "Guns at the OK Corral" if I refused.
Only one very large person in the surf and not many at the restaurants, but I was down there earlier than usual.
Cheers
Colin
Oh so they do - how good, we know the saying .... as a parrot..lol

DeleteThank you dear friend for sharing delightful duck pictures 🤗
ReplyDeleteI love seeing them 👍♥️
I appreciate laws and rules that protect animals and birds
You are welcome Baili. People seem to obey the law as well there at The Punchbowl.
DeleteDo folks get fined if they end up giving food to the birds?
