We visited a small restaurant the other day in Ross, Tasmania. There is no supermarket of any type or kind in the small rural town. The Cafe is popular, it sells scallop pies, sandwiches, light meals, biscuits, vanilla slices, jelly slices and so on. Also, there is a delicatessen. It's about 1 hour drive from home here, in Launceston, Tasmania. Ross was settled in 1812.
I thought I had posted this post, but it seems not.
What a beautiful tea room Margaret!!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine it on a winter morning and it's snowing outside!
I really like the Aesop quote you quoted here!
Thank you. I really believe in that Aesop quote.
DeleteIt looks like a very nice place to visit. I like afternoon tea very much.
ReplyDeleteIt is a friendly, comfortable place to have afternoon tea. You always feel at home there.
DeleteSuch a charming little town! Ross has this timeless feel, and the café sounds like a perfect spot for a cozy afternoon treat.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great spot to stop and stretch the legs
DeleteLovely place, I say!
ReplyDeleteIt's small and pleasant.
DeleteI love the stone exterior and the exposed brick interior, Margaret. The sign, the stained glass and the clean and cozy interior make it a very relaxing and inviting place. Beautiful photos, dear friend 🧡
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. It's a friendly place and you feel at home there.
DeleteBeautiful place.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne.
DeleteNo supermarket of any type or kind? Where do people there get their groceries? The tea room looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteNo not one supermarket, just nothing anymore. People have to travel to either Campbell Town which is north or Launceston where I live to get their groceries. I've lived in the country when first married and had to buy food for at least a month or more, there is no going shopping every second day. However, times have changed, and people now travel frequently to the city = Launceston.
DeleteI am with Angie.. where do Ross people do their ordinary shopping? I am retired and would be happy to have lunch each day in the attractive tea rooms, but that might be a bit expensive after a while.
ReplyDeleteIt would turn out to be expensive if done everyday, a few times a week is ok though. It's a very rural area there. Most people would travel to Campbell Town (north) or even go south to Oatlands to the IGA' stores but many would either go to Launceston or Hobart to do a monthly shop. No different to the outback towns in Vic, NSW, SA, NT, WA - they all have outback places that the people have to travel even to see the DR. maybe 2 to 3 hours away, they are used to that.
DeleteI'd love eating there.
ReplyDeleteGood food, nothing too fancy, simply and tasty, John.
DeleteA nice place to enjoy some tea and cake. There are a few around some towns nearby.
ReplyDeleteYes Bill, good place for that - I've noticed they have been advertising delicious looking soup for something really light.
DeleteI should imagine there would be places like it in your country too...and welcome back.
The type of local tea room I would visit if traveling through the town
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm sure you would, nice and healthy as well yet some treats :)
DeleteIt looks a lovely place but for me I think those chairs would be uncomfortable after about 10-15 minutes, though customer turnover would be welcomed by the cafe.
ReplyDeleteThose chairs were and are amazingly comfortable for us, I thought they wouldn't be but I changed my mind. I presume they do a good trade. Ross is off the highway about 5 minutes but the only decent place to have something to eat, there is also a wonderful Hotel there that serves good meals as sister in law meets one of her daughter's and her family there for a lunch on occasions. Sister in law lives near us here in Launceston and her daughter etc live in the Hobart area.
DeleteUna belleza de entrada, esta que nos brindas.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to visit, and what a lovely tea room!
ReplyDeleteHere in the Netherlands, everything is so close together that I can easily walk to a place to have a cup of tea.
I wish you a lovely Wednesday.
Greetings Irma
I think we would love to be there with you.
