The Punchbowl Reserve is a good place to have a picnic or a walk around the pond, have a game of cricket in the summer or football in winter, or just run around. There is a playground for children as well.
The Turbo Chook or Tasmanian Native Hens are good swimmers' fast runners with strong legs therefore some people call them 'turbo chooks'. The chooks can run up to 50km hour are plentiful near marshes, rivers and so on. The Native Hen is protected, and they don't fly.
These photos were taken recently in autumn.
The photo of the Native Hen below was taken a few years ago with my Canon camera...you can see the difference in quality to the phone.
The map of The Punchbowl about a 7 minute drive from home.
The hen's legs look out of proportion to the body and even more to the head. The hen in the second photo looks like it is almost goose stepping.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree - a very smart goose stepper!
DeleteI think Adolph, El Duce and Stalin would be delighted.
Certainly many of them in one photo.
Oh yes and please stop sending your freezing weather up here.
It is freezing this morning.
I am off to Terrigal beach to see if anyone is in the surf.
Yesterday the beach was deserted.
Cheers
Colin
The hen is very sweet, and the river is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCute hen, Margaret. It looks like she was posing for you.
ReplyDeleteThe first Tasmanian Native Hen we encountered was spotted in a field while we were driving. We pulled over to the side of the road to get a better look and take a picture, not knowing that we would see several every day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful looking hen.
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures so much. That little stream is so peaceful looking.
ReplyDeletePeaceful walks, playful moments, and the lively dash of turbo chooks make Punchbowl Reserve a real local gem
ReplyDeleteLindo pueblo. Linda gallina. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThe creek is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe Native Hens would be outrun anything, which is handy if they can't fly.
