Out Westwood Way, Tasmania

A lovely drive was taken the other day to a country area called Westwood.  My husband's G Grandfather had property out that way, but his house burnt down apparently, and I have no idea where he went after that.  It's rather a dead-end story really!

The Church of England at Hagley in the distance and a photo zoomed in.

Facing into the sun doesn't always made for a good photo, the one below to me has interesting colour.

A farm house.

You can see the Westwood area with dotted red marks.

    1. Wouldn't have a clue Hels. Asked his Lordship and he doesn't know either.

    2. Damn. I thought you might live at home doing normal stuff while you graze your livestock on more spacious countryside.

  2. Margaret, I want to tell you that the image of the cow behind the fence reminded me of Margarita, the cow my uncle had. He would call her, and she would come right away. On the other hand, we see how curious cows are; you must have seen them watching from behind the fences in the fields.

    1. Yes Norma, the cows were close to the fence for some reason, so hence a fairly good photo of them. They are curious animal's cows, they like to know who looking and what's going on.

  3. Great pictures. That cow looks like it was getting to tell you something. Looking right at you and the camera, lol. Too bad you don't know more about your G Grandpa. Maybe an old newspaper would have some news of him. The house burning down would be something people talked about and perhaps wrote about in the news? I've found some info on my ancestors that way.

    1. Thank you Sandy. Have left you a message on your blog.
Yes, the fire of my husbands G Grandfather was in the newspaper way back and his death also but nothing after the fire, I suppose he rebuilt, no Aunties of Uncles left to ask.

    1. Very green and just after summer in our autumn too, and no rain hardly but then the farmers do irrigate.

  11. What a poignant connection to the past—it's a shame the trail ends there, but visiting Westwood must have brought a special sense of place to the family story.

    1. It's always good to travel the road if you can where you ancestors came from, well I think it is. We don't know for sure which farmland my husband's G Grandfather owned.

    1. Thanks Andrew. I zoomed in further but the photo wasn't that clear, the movement of the vehicle I guess. It's a lovely little church and I think I have photos on the blog somewhere of it.

Glad it's fine and sunny and hopefully not too cold for your area. Rained here two night ago during the night but wasn't much. Better than nothing.

  15. Looks like a lovely area. I used to want to live in the country, but after so many years close to the city I think I prefer having shops and medical facilities so close to home.

  19. Thought, I'd pop back over to leave this info for you. What I've noticed when visiting your blog is if I click on your name in the comment you left, I am directed to your profile page and not your blog, so then I click on the name of your blog from your profile page and it takes me to a screen that says re-direct, once I click on that I'm taken to your blog. But, if I click on your name on my blog list I go directly to your blog. I think it might be the way you've entered the url on your blog list? I've not had that problem, but have noticed that when I click on someone on my blog list it doesn't always change the color of the link. It used to always change colors which was helpful because you knew where you had visited and where you hadn't. Now it only seems to work on some of the blogs. No idea why. I think if I were you I would do a cut and paste of my blog, then delete it on your list and start over. I've also noticed once you paste the link into the url space you have 2 options to title it. Click on the first option which automatically names it.

    1. Hello Sandy, I've done the last bit, copy and paste etc. and it still isn't correct. I guess it must be blogging glitch, just another one. Also, I have same problem as you when going to my blog friends via my list, I'm redirected as you are to mine, and like you it's not all blogs. Another glitch I expect. Haven't come across the link problem as yet.
      Thank you for your reply...Margaret.

    1. Thank you Jose, the farmers must have irrigated in the summer for it to be so green as we haven't had much rain at all.

I enjoyed each image thoroughly dear Margaret 🤗♥️
How amazing once your husband’s g grandfather had property there 🤗
This is sad that we can’t hardly trace stories from our ancestors ☹️

    1. Thank you Baili. Sometimes stories can be traced which is good, other times it's a dead end. We do know the family ended up owning property in another area.

  26. My favorite place to be is out in the countryside. Wonderful photos! I often find that even those taken directly into sunlight can have a lovely effect. Some work out, some don't but yours definitely worked out. Wishing you a great weekend Margaret and you know how much I love those maps :))) Thank you!
