A lovely drive was taken the other day to a country area called Westwood. My husband's G Grandfather had property out that way, but his house burnt down apparently, and I have no idea where he went after that. It's rather a dead-end story really!
The Church of England at Hagley in the distance and a photo zoomed in.
Facing into the sun doesn't always made for a good photo, the one below to me has interesting colour.
A farm house.
You can see the Westwood area with dotted red marks.
Who owns those cows and horses?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't have a clue Hels. Asked his Lordship and he doesn't know either.
DeleteDamn. I thought you might live at home doing normal stuff while you graze your livestock on more spacious countryside.
DeleteMargaret, I want to tell you that the image of the cow behind the fence reminded me of Margarita, the cow my uncle had. He would call her, and she would come right away. On the other hand, we see how curious cows are; you must have seen them watching from behind the fences in the fields.
ReplyDeleteYes Norma, the cows were close to the fence for some reason, so hence a fairly good photo of them. They are curious animal's cows, they like to know who looking and what's going on.
DeleteGreat pictures. That cow looks like it was getting to tell you something. Looking right at you and the camera, lol. Too bad you don't know more about your G Grandpa. Maybe an old newspaper would have some news of him. The house burning down would be something people talked about and perhaps wrote about in the news? I've found some info on my ancestors that way.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
Thank you Sandy. Have left you a message on your blog.
DeleteYes, the fire of my husbands G Grandfather was in the newspaper way back and his death also but nothing after the fire, I suppose he rebuilt, no Aunties of Uncles left to ask.
Hi Margaret, I love ❤️ cows 🐄 and horses 🐎. What a beautiful place to relax and enjoy life and the lovely views. Thank you so much for sharing your journey 😊
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Linda. They are nice cows.
DeleteLovely place
ReplyDeleteIt is nice there, it's open and green.
DeleteOh that was a lovely drive you took us on. I always love seeing the horses, cows and other animals on our drive. Great photos plus map. Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Denise. It's always good to go to the country and here it's not far to get there either.
DeleteLoved the pictures!! So much land, so much beauty.
ReplyDeleteNot far out of the city either, it's luscious and green there.
DeleteThank you for taking us along! The views are amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Angie and it is nice there.
DeleteLove seeing all those cows. Lovely land and location.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful area Bill.
DeleteGoodness, those pictures are amazing. I love them, they came out so good.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary.
DeleteSuch beautiful green fields.
ReplyDeleteVery green and just after summer in our autumn too, and no rain hardly but then the farmers do irrigate.
DeleteWhat a poignant connection to the past—it's a shame the trail ends there, but visiting Westwood must have brought a special sense of place to the family story.
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to travel the road if you can where you ancestors came from, well I think it is. We don't know for sure which farmland my husband's G Grandfather owned.
DeleteLovely country. And sooooo green.
ReplyDeleteVery green EC, guess the farmers irrigate as we haven't had much rain.
DeleteI love the zoomed in photo of the church, and the livestock look good too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew. I zoomed in further but the photo wasn't that clear, the movement of the vehicle I guess. It's a lovely little church and I think I have photos on the blog somewhere of it.
DeleteGood looking live stock and in great condition.
ReplyDeleteFine and sunny at last here - mien gut!!!
Cheers
Colin
Healthy cattle and sheep along in the paddocks Colin.
DeleteGlad it's fine and sunny and hopefully not too cold for your area. Rained here two night ago during the night but wasn't much. Better than nothing.
Looks like a lovely area. I used to want to live in the country, but after so many years close to the city I think I prefer having shops and medical facilities so close to home.
ReplyDeleteCan understand what you say R, it's always good to live near convivences etc rather than having to drive hours to get to them.
DeleteWhat beautiful pictures of the landscape.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a beautiful Thursday.
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma.
DeleteBeautiful photos and landscape!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThese pastoral pictures are quite fine! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill.
DeleteLooks like an English pastoral landscape.
ReplyDeleteI guess it does David, not that I've been to England but from photos.
DeleteThought, I'd pop back over to leave this info for you. What I've noticed when visiting your blog is if I click on your name in the comment you left, I am directed to your profile page and not your blog, so then I click on the name of your blog from your profile page and it takes me to a screen that says re-direct, once I click on that I'm taken to your blog. But, if I click on your name on my blog list I go directly to your blog. I think it might be the way you've entered the url on your blog list? I've not had that problem, but have noticed that when I click on someone on my blog list it doesn't always change the color of the link. It used to always change colors which was helpful because you knew where you had visited and where you hadn't. Now it only seems to work on some of the blogs. No idea why. I think if I were you I would do a cut and paste of my blog, then delete it on your list and start over. I've also noticed once you paste the link into the url space you have 2 options to title it. Click on the first option which automatically names it.
ReplyDeleteHello Sandy, I've done the last bit, copy and paste etc. and it still isn't correct. I guess it must be blogging glitch, just another one. Also, I have same problem as you when going to my blog friends via my list, I'm redirected as you are to mine, and like you it's not all blogs. Another glitch I expect. Haven't come across the link problem as yet.
DeleteThank you for your reply...Margaret.
Lovely cows!
ReplyDeleteThey are nice Anne. Thank you.
DeleteLooks a very nice area, lovely photographs you've shared.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you Jan.
DeleteEs un bello lugar. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely there J.P.
DeleteJust letting you know I was here and liked all the photos
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo-Anne.
DeleteWonderful place with amazing landscapes.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is a lovely area, Maria.
DeleteHow beautiful it is to see those landscapes, those lush green meadows, to enjoy that environment.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.
Best regards.
Thank you Jose, the farmers must have irrigated in the summer for it to be so green as we haven't had much rain at all.
DeleteWow Westwood looks such a beautiful and lush place 👍🥰
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed each image thoroughly dear Margaret 🤗♥️
How amazing once your husband’s g grandfather had property there 🤗
This is sad that we can’t hardly trace stories from our ancestors ☹️
Thanks for sharing this beauty with us my friend ♥️
Thank you Baili. Sometimes stories can be traced which is good, other times it's a dead end. We do know the family ended up owning property in another area.
DeleteWhat beautiful countryside!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice Jim & Barb.
DeleteThis is the type of place I like to be and you already know if you read my blog, I love the photos. Such a peaceful spot, and that photo with the sun is really cool! I’d love to see more like this. I just shared a new blog post — would be awesome if you stopped by and took a look!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melody. Farmer here usually irrigate to crops and to feed their cows and sheep and so on.
DeleteVeramente splendida questa campagna, tranquilla e con tanti animali
ReplyDeleteVery quiet there Stefania which is good. Most of the homes belonging to the farms are well back off the road.
DeleteThank you.
My favorite place to be is out in the countryside. Wonderful photos! I often find that even those taken directly into sunlight can have a lovely effect. Some work out, some don't but yours definitely worked out. Wishing you a great weekend Margaret and you know how much I love those maps :))) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Denise - yes you and the map..lol
DeleteWestwood looks like such a cool place to explore!
ReplyDeleteThe old buildings and countryside have such a peaceful charm.
Loving your stunning photos as always, Margaret.
Thank you Veronica.
DeleteLovely sceneries. And so many cows. We keep our cows here in Finland mostly indoors, you hardly see them anymore.
ReplyDeleteHugs orvokki
Me ha encantado esos paisajes. Besos Margaret.
