Shute Harbour, Queensland.

Shute Harbour is a small place about 125 people and the harbour is past Airlie Beach.
The Harbour is the gateway to the islands as seen in the map below.
Cyclone Debbie (a few years ago) paid a visit to Shute Harbour and surrounding areas, stripped the leaves off the palm trees and other trees, destroyed buildings, pontoons and so on.  The harbour is rather different these days than is was before Debbie paid a visit.

  1. The cyclones really don't play nicely do they?
A beautiful area which I hope has recovered.

    1. Cyclone make things very different after for the councils don't seem to put things back they way thing were, thee owner of the land build something different or don't build at all.
Down by the sea there buildings have been pulled down, pontoons not replaced in the same place, it looks rather drab to what it was before.

  2. Es muy pequeña la población. Seguramente en época de vacaciones se verá multiplicada.

    1. Not in that area does the population become larger, back at Airlie Beach the population grows in the tourist season.

    1. Not a bad spot Andrew. Rather prefer other places to stay than at Airlie Beach, it doesn't appeal to me, the beach is ok as far as sand goes, the sea is ok but normal nasties about about with jaggered rocks and stone on one side of it.

  4. "Debbie" certainly made a mess of that whole tropical holiday island strip.
The buildings/resorts are far more cyclone proof these days.

Have had some really wild holidays in my "youthful" days on South Molle Island.
One wonders these days how it got it's name????
It sure was "Mollish" in the 1970s and 80s.
Very wild parties were held pool side at ungodly hours - ha ha.
All carefully tucked away in my "memory box".
    Cheers

    1. Oh gosh, you had a ball it seems Colin. A party person it seems.
Shute Harbour is ok but not like it used to be and I do believe they are not going to make it look any better.

    1. They sure do Jo-Anne, the damage to everything. There are trees that are gone totally as they were broken..

  6. Interesting to see your photos of Shute Harbour, as we have not been there, but found Airlie Beach beautiful but too busy for us, and very difficult to navigate with a caravan in tow so we just did a drive around. Thanks for the photos.

    1. This last year it wasn't that busy at the time of our visit but we have been there when very busy in winter. We stay out near Proserpine then drive into Airlie for a drive.
      You are welcome.

    1. Yes Megy, lot of greenery, blue sky and sea...it's good standing and looking out to sea, the Coral Sea.

  10. What is the thing in the fourth photo? Those homes up on the cliff must have quite a view of that gorgeous blue water.

    1. 4th photos, it's a pontoon I expect and they seem to be repairing it.
Have been up where those houses are and it is a really good view as there is sea on both sides looking down.
