This video goes for a couple of minutes and is worth viewing as it has information about the inside of the Richmond Gaol.
Plus there are photos which I took.
The cat of nine tails was used every second morning for flogging.
The toilets.
A fire place.
Thanks for your Gaol, I wouldn't like to live there, lol.
ReplyDeleteMe neither.
DeleteMargaret, the video was very informative and the narrator speaks very well. I, like Bob, wouldn't like to live there. LOL! Your photos are beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Linda.
DeleteThe narrator does speak clearly..
A sentence for U.S. readers: I was on the way to the gaol when I ran over the kerb and had to buy a new tyre. Spell-check hated all of those. In any event--- great pictures, as before, and a fun tour with the video as well.
ReplyDeleteGosh, seems you had a dreadful time with spell check, it can be a pain at times..
DeleteBoy, oh boy, is that grim.
ReplyDeleteNot at all good back then.
DeleteGreat picture. You captured the hopelessness. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been very hopeless to what we know these days.
DeleteThe passage of time has left its mark on these facilities, their photographs are beautiful.
ReplyDeletekisses
Always good to keep some history if possible to show.
DeleteVery interesting. Thanks for sharing the video and photos.
ReplyDeleteWish I could share these blackberries with you - they are huge and so sweet!
Now those blackberries, you have made my mouth water.
DeleteGreat photo's here ... and similar to some of the earlier comments, I wouldn't want to live there either !!!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thanks Jan, certainly not a nice place.
DeleteDouble toilets make me shudder. As does the cat of nine tails. Every second day? Some of them must have be scarred for life.
ReplyDeleteAnd no, not somewhere I would like to live either. Predictable aren't we?
Yes every second day a flogging..gosh - bad times like that will come no more, we hope.
DeleteWhat a horrible way to wake and remember which day it is, flogging day or not flogging day.
ReplyDeleteWould have been awful, but they would know what was coming. Wouldn't not have liked to live back then and see or heard the torture.
DeleteHorrific to the 100th degree. One wonders HAVE we improved since those days.
ReplyDeleteAs for seeing ghosts, nightmares would be more like it.
So good to see that this horror establishment has been preserved for us to
now visit.
Cheers
Colin
Oh yes, we have improved well let's hope we have.
DeleteAlways good to have our past history at hand and able to visit even thought it's not nice to know what happened back then..
I would love to visit this place I love old gaols
ReplyDeleteThey are interesting Jo-Anne.
DeleteA very informative video, I'd like to visit Richmond Gaol one day.
ReplyDeleteI believe you meant cat of nine tails (not nail tails); it's a whip with nine long lashes on the end so each swing would cut nine times.
Lol at my typing :) It's the Irish in me, you know!
DeleteWill fix it..
Not very nice the nine tails, I presume many a person back then had scars from the lashings.
Interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteIntresting place, but terrible to think those days
ReplyDeleteAwful.
DeleteThank God my two cats have only one tail each! They flick me often!!
ReplyDeleteA very interesting post, Margaret - as are the other about Richmond Jail.
Cat's do that! Thanks goodness that doesn't hurt.
DeleteInteresting information but this place must have been an awful place for those who were forced to stay there.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great day and glad we were never incarcerated there. Shudder.
