Cardwell, Queensland, Tasmania.

Cardwell is a tropical small town on the eastern highway northwest of Townsville in the State of Queensland. It's a peaceful place, but was near destroyed by a Cyclone in 2011.  My photos were taken before that happened.
There is a jetty there where people fish, and one can see the turtles swimming in the evening time, so whilst there many a hour was spent at near dusk looking and talking to the locals.
Often we would see a small boat come to the jetty in the evenings, a man running for his life to catch the shop before it closed.  He came from Hinchinbrook Island, a holiday Island.
The Island can be seen 'just' in the photo.

In the early evening, so simple.

Strolling along the beach at dusk.

  1. I believe walking along the beach is a pleasure...Tropical town sounds great. But what temperature is it in summer?

    1. We have been there in winter time Gosia. The temperature would have been about 24C, and the Dew Point would have been higher than it is where I live.

    1. It is fun. These huge turtles swimming gracefully in the water, magic to watch, as you know they are so slow on land.

  3. Interesting place but with an average rainfall of over 83 inches in the monsoonal
season and the heat (humidity) - well advised to avoid at that time.
Unfortunately that was the period I picked years ago to visit!
Hinchenbrook Island is well worth a visit, but I was disappointed with the
then accommodation. I think the resort copped a terrible bashing when
    "Yasi" hit the area.
What time of the year did you visit, Margaret?
    Cheers

    1. Ooops - sorry. That should read average ANNUAL rainfall of 83 inches, but I would think most of that does come in the monsoon period.

    2. Oh my, not a good time to be there then. Didn't go to any of the islands, and probably won't.
We have been up that way twice, In winter always. The man that owned the news-agency when we were there last time, came from Tasmania.

  6. I love the idea of walking along a beach, but usually don't like to actually do it
