On my way to Devonport, Tasmania, Australia.

On my way to dads this week I managed to take two photos from the highway because the road was being worked on. To refresh memories, and for those that visit my blog, my dad is legally blind, 90 years of age and lives in his own two story house at Devonport, Tasmania, Australia.  I go to my dads every week which takes me about 1 hour and 20 minutes.  Sometimes my husband comes with me.
Dad has Meals on Wheels 3 times a week, a Registered Nurse comes once and week, then a lady with training (of course) comes 3 times a week to shower my dad.  Then the cleaning lady comes once a week, the shower lady takes dad for a drive about every fortnight, and I do the remainder!

The small town of Sassafras is of a rural nature, and obviously many potatoes are grown along with many kinds of vegetables for Australians to buy from the supermarkets, of course after being processed.

The Big Spud at Sassafras, Tasmania.
The poor Spud needs revamping.

A view of the hills from the highway.

The old Elizabeth Town Hotel which is now ETC. been modernized and good eating, tea & coffee. ETC is very popular, and the carpark is always nearly full.

  1. Hello:

How really splendid that your father, registered blind, at the age of 90 lives in his own home. This we admire so very, very much and certainly see him, and others like him, as a role model for us all. And what is so good that there is professional help available in order for him to continue to be independent and for you to know that someone is keeping an eye on him. Even so it is a long weekly drive for you but we are certain that he is appreciative of all that you do.

    1. My dad has been legally blind for over 10 years now.
For some like my dad that is blind, to take him away from his environment he would be lost. He knows where everything is in his house, where to walk and where not to walk. He even manages the stairs well.
He is appreciative of what I do, for I am all that he has :)

  2. I took notice of the town of Sassafras. I love sassafras tea. Is there any connection?
My hat is off to your father. How wonderful that he is still managing on his own with just a bit of help!

    1. I have no idea where the town Sassafras got it's name, someone would know :) so I presume there is no connection to 'tea'.

    1. Yes Gosia, it's good to have my dad, but he's getting more feeble as time goes on.
I believe we have good health care, for the aged are given help to stay in their own home for as long as they can.

  5. I'm sure it is hard work for you to make this long trip every week and do many things that allow your father to remain in his own home. Caring for parents is not easy! It does look like a pretty drive in your photos. I love that blue, blue sky.

    1. Cynthia, it does get tiring, plus to fit all I have to do whilst there. Sometimes I stop 3 nights, or even go down 2 times a week, depends on what I have to do both here at home and at dads.
Been doing it for 6 years now, never missed :)
It is a lovely drive there and back.

    1. It was a nice hotel at the time. These days you can't stop opposite and take a photo as the road is blocked. It's good he has care in his own home.
