Just a bit of Trivia regarding Launceston, Tasmania, Australia where I live.
These two 'things' I found on the internet: The sunniest town in Tasmania is Launceston, it's sunnier than Melbourne, Victoria which is a State of Australia north of the State Tasmania. Launceston has 2,500 hours of annual sunshine, whereas Melbourne receives 2,300 hours of annual Sunshine.
The 2nd 'thing' is what is the foodie town of Tasmania? Launceston. The internet says it's a foodie paradise and gastronomic hub officially recognized as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy in 2021. A meeting place of food, culture, tradition and innovation that connects people with the land in a way that's deliciously down to earth.
Rather interesting I thought.
Some meals we had recently for dinner (evening meal).
The above three meat things are Rissoles with gravy and 6 vegetables. I/we love potatoes, fortunately we can eat anything at aged 80.
I have a glass of wine most evenings with my dinner, this wine is the only one I drink and it's Brown Brothers Crouchen Riesling which is an Australia sweet wine. The wine features sweet fruit flavours with a soft finish and aromas of tropical fruits and melons.
Chicken Stirfry and Rice
Baked dinner, baked pork and gravy with 4 vegetables potatoes baked.
Below is Spaghetti Bolognaise.

This post makes me hungry
ReplyDelete:) Getting towards dinner time here this evening. New potatoes, chicken and corn beef plus a salad.
DeleteYou do eat well - and plentifully!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I do make a little more than needed but it goes on the plate.
DeleteNormal types of meals for us, David.
I'm coming to your house for dinner. Everything looks so good. Your photos could be in food magazine. LOL I love that you have a protein, a starch and veggies. Wonderful. Have a very nice day today.
ReplyDeleteWe try to have a well-balanced diet with variety each meal and week - all things in moderation.
DeleteYou are welcome to come and eat with us.
Diese Bilder von dem Essen machen mich echt hungrig es unterscheidet sich nicht
ReplyDeletevon dem Essen bei uns.
Gruß
Noke
I would feel at home in your country then seeing as you have the same type of food, Noke.
DeleteThe food looks really good. I would love to be served that food every day. The food in the first picture looks like Norwegian food too. It's one of my favorite dishes.
ReplyDeleteA good old baked meal it seems, Marit. Sometimes I baked most of the veggies.
DeleteHello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteThat all looks very delicious. Good to see you will enjoy life and make and eat lovely food with a good glass of wine.
That's a party to eat. You make me hungry, but can I pull up my plate...?? Hihihi...!!
Many greetings,
Marco
Yes pull your plate up and I'll put food on it for you.
DeleteThanks Marco.
Margaret, I remember that back in the 1960s and 70s, Australia received many immigrants, and that gave rise to a diverse contemporary cuisine with chefs who blend local ingredients with international techniques.
ReplyDeleteConsequently, the food there is varied and tasty.
Keep enjoying!
You are correct Norma. Many types/kinds of food available to us here these days which is a good thing as it adds variety.
DeleteYour meals look scrumptious, 😋 Margaret.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda.
DeleteHi Margaret,
ReplyDeleteThis food looks absolutely delicious; it's making me hungry.
I wish you a wonderful new week.
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma. You have a good week too.
DeleteGlad to hear that Australian people like spaghetti Bolognaise, which is a typical Italian dish 😀
ReplyDeletehttps://www.rossiandriccardo.com/blogs/articles/spaghetti-bolognaise-an-italian-classic-that-is-not-italian
Great post: information I didn't know about Launceston's gastronomic hub, which was recognized by UNESCO in 2021.
I wouldn' mind a glass of that Australian white wine 😀🥂🍸
For many people Spaghetti Bolognaise is a good meal and easy and for me quick to make.
DeleteThanks for the link - will go there and read it.
Amazing about UNESCO I too was surprised when I came across that on the internet. It's a feather in our cap here in Launceston, Giorgio.
That looks like a really tasty and comforting meal!
ReplyDeleteYes they are Angie. Nice and filling.
DeleteLaunceston is a wonderful place to call home
ReplyDeleteIt sure is, wouldn't swap it for anything :)
DeleteBeing the UNESCO City of Gastronomy is very impressive. Very!
ReplyDeleteYes it certainly is impressive, Hels. I happened to come across that information when surfing the net.
DeleteThe food looks really good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary.
DeleteTwo hundred more hours of sunshine a year over Melbourne is significant.
ReplyDeleteI can't go past a good roast, or rissoles even.
I was very surprised regarding the sunshine.
DeleteThey are nice rissoles, well to us and a few friends love them. Recipes all vary and you have what you like. Love a roast myself. Those potatoes roasted and crispy on the outside and soft in the middle....yummy.
Very impressive - the "sweet wine" - that would be a definite miss
ReplyDeletefor me.
Ha ha - beat Melbourne eh??? Watch out they are the protest capital of the world and they will come after you.
Lovely sunny day here and for reasons unknown. the beach is still full of your ones - aged from about 10 to 14 years with teachers SWIMMING, BOARD RIDING. etc.
School lessons sure have changed?????????
Cheers
Colin
PS: Does the restaurant set the meals up for you to photograph???
You should be paid a commission.
I cooked those meals from scratch and I always do, Colin.
DeleteUsed to have half a glass of red wine but unfortunately it gives a headache where that sweet wine doesn't, so each to his own.
Melbourne seem to have a fair amount of protests that we hear about which is understandable as that city is closer to us than other cities except Hobart of course.
Oh well the young ones are having fun it seems!
Ooops _ "YOUR ONES" aka - YOUNG ONES!!!
ReplyDeleteColin
Got it.
DeleteI enjoyed the trivia you shared about Launceston.
ReplyDeleteYour food looks great ... I enjoyed a very nice Roast Chicken Dinner today courtesy of son and DIL ... it was delicious :)
All the best Jan
Trivia can sometimes be very interesting.
DeleteOh that is good you had a lovely roast, Jan. Usually one daughter in law is working on Sundays, the other attends the markets with her cooking to sell.
What you found out about your city is quite interesting. Who knew?! : )
ReplyDeleteThe meals look soooo delicious.
I didn't know about the award of our city - amazing, well until I just came across it as I was doing this post.
DeleteThank you.
Are those restaurant meals or did you cook them at home? They look so delicious, but speaking for myself it would be too much trouble to go to for just one person, then having to face the clean-up.
ReplyDeleteI cooked them R. Normal meals for us at home, and I start from scratch.
DeleteCan understand that it's too much for one person, but knowing me I reckon I would still cook and try for one person.
Everything looks so delicious!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThose are types of meals I like
ReplyDeleteOh good, Jo-Anne, just our Australian basic meals now.
DeleteHave a nice new week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne.
DeleteOh goodness! All the food looks SO wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHappy week!
hugs
Donna
Thank you Donna. You have a good week too.
DeleteHello Margaret,
ReplyDeleteWell, it is a great accolade for your home town to be recognised as a gastronomic hub. It is so interesting to be able to enjoy food from a variety of cultures and culinary traditions. That really keeps the taste buds working!
You are clearly keep up the cooking standards at home with these delicious-looking meals. It can be dispiriting to have to think of different meals during the week, but you ring the changes which must make eating them a pleasure.
Our city is indeed lucky to have the accolade.
DeleteOn the home front we try to have a variety that is both tasty and nutritious, Jane.
All the meals look super delicious.
ReplyDeleteThe AI image of spring flowers at the bottom of the blog is fantastic.
Have a great week.
Thank you re the AI, Maria.
DeleteI always try to cook something different each evening for dinner.
All those meals are definitely my cup of tea, they all look scrumptious and a nice glass of wine too. I showed hubs this and he said, "Sign us up!", lol! Launceston, and I may have mentioned this before, is a town I used to visit in Cornwall (UK). I just remember their Cornish Pasties which we have on occasionally because there is a man from Cornwall who opened a pastie shop not too far away (in Vienna,Virginia that is). I also love your spring flowers Margaret, enjoy your Spring! We are at 47 degrees F. this morning in Northern Virginia. Not too bad for November over here.
ReplyDeletePleased you like our meals, Denise. I did laugh at what your husband said..lol
DeleteOur Launceston is pronounced rather different from the one in England. I'm sure the man from Cornwall in Vienna, Virginia has wonderful pasties.
Me da ganas del espagueti. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDelete:) Thank you and you the same.
DeleteMuy bellamente captados esos platos tan sugestivos.
ReplyDeleteUn saludo, amiga
Thank you Ildefonso.
DeleteMaravillosas esas comidas Margaret, seguro que me gustarían. Interesantes curiosidades que no conocía. Un abrazo.
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, I looked up how much sunshine we get here in our area. 2732
ReplyDeleteI like the swirly action of the noodles on the fork. I love a big plate of veggies. Looks very, very good and I'm with you on the spuds. LOOVE them. Though lately, I've been eating a lot of cauliflower mash and I am AMAZED at how stinkin' good it is. Really, I love all kinds of veg. You got some great goodies here.
ReplyDeleteThat's some excellent trivia. Your recent meals, especially those Rissoles with 6 veggies, look absolutely hearty and delicious! And enjoying a glass of that Brown Brothers Crouchen Riesling sounds like the perfect way to cap off a wonderful, sun-filled day.
ReplyDeleteGood food never goes out of fashion, does it? Your meals look delicious and nutritious.
ReplyDeleteGood article and delicious food. Success for your blog ok. Thx
