Whilst staying in Port Arthur we had visitors namely the Green Rosella or Tasmanian Rosella and it's a species of parrot native to Tasmania and Bass Strait Islands.
Where we stayed was a bush setting.
I took these photos with my phone and was so thrilled with the results.
The first two shots were on the same day then the next day a much younger one appeared.
The Plover came to visit. I've shown a few photos before that I've taken of the plovers over the years, you can read about them [ here ]
Beautiful pictures of the parrots.
ReplyDeleteThe plover is also very beautiful, we do not see this species in the Netherlands.
Greetings Irma
Thank you Irma. It's amazing how there are so many different species of the same bird as in the plover.
DeleteLovely birds !!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ashok.
DeleteThe birds are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bill.
DeleteMolto belli i pappagalli, piccoli ma belli. Ciao e buona serata, Angelo.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angelo, yes, certainly not a large parrot.
DeleteThey are so cute! I am not sure if I have ever seen a plover before.
ReplyDeleteOh! Well you have seen one now Angie, there legs are longish.
DeleteMargaret, with regard to the plover I will tell you that formerly around here there was an expression that said "you have the head of a plover" The expression seems to come from the ancient belief that, because of the size of its head in proportion to the rest of its body, the plover was an animal that cannot process complicated reasoning. It is also said that it was due to its behavior, as some people thought that this bird had little common sense. The Tasmanian parrot has a very nice pluje!
ReplyDeleteNow that is interesting what is said about the plover - good saying though, made me smile :) The parrot is nice and believe it or not the first time I've seen this Tasmanian one.
DeleteGorgeous photos. I particularly like the one of the youngster, yet to attain adult plumage. Yet another reminder that I need to visit your beautiful state again.
ReplyDeleteOh the little one is sweet and I was very surprise when I looked on the ground and there it was! Lucky I had the phone with me.
DeleteThe Rosella is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteThanks Duta, it indeed is.
DeleteSuch a pretty bird I like watching birds
ReplyDeleteBirds are fascinating, clever creatures in all ways Jo-Anne.
DeletePlovers !!! They should be named "The Stukas" of WW2 "Fame" or "Horror";
ReplyDeleteGod help you if you go near their young.
Also they don't seem to sleep at night, but on roofs you see them scoring
their damn heads off during the day.
I have them on the roof opposite me and their mating game is over in a flash.
Oh I am naughty.
Also they don't go to too much trouble with their nests - just a few sticks and
leaves mostly right in the middle of someone's pristine lawn and don't go too
close or else. Between them and magpies and nests and chicks, I reckon it is
a dead-heat in terror.
Beautiful parrot - lucky you, the damn Indian Mynahs have killed all
our native birds here on the NSW Central Coast - well really all over NSW and QLD.
Cheers
Colin
Have never had any trouble with plovers Colin. Do know they don't like you anywhere near their young ones..I recall when we lived on the farm for 8 years long ago the plovers would nest just anywhere in the paddocks.
DeleteI've heard of the Indian Mynahs and the damage they have done, such a shame.
They really do pick the oddest places to nest...
ReplyDeleteI believe they nest in a hollow part of a tree Bill. The plovers are a bit weird as to where they nest.
DeleteI saw my first Green Rosella on Bruny Island. Great memories!
ReplyDelete:) Bruny Island is over 3 hours drive then ferry away from Port Arthur, it's good you saw one or two.
DeleteNice green rosella with special colours
ReplyDeleteYes, pretty and different from other parrots.
DeleteMuito bonitos estes belos pássaros.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

ReplyDeleteGreat captures!
They are lovely Maria. That little young bird is such a cutie and he/she was good to sit still whilst I photographed it :)
DeleteThe Green Rosella has really beautiful colouring.
ReplyDeleteCertainly has good colouring Rosemary, so many parrots and many colours go with each one.
DeleteThe parrot is beautiful, wonderfully colored.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is.
DeleteEl loro es muy vistoso y tiene unos bonitos colores.
ReplyDeleteBesos.
Yes lovely colours - thank you.

Donna
Thanks Donna, I was lucky that they came so close.
DeleteWhat a beautiful... great photos you got with your cell phone. I also take most of the photos with my cell phone, but they rarely succeed with birds. That means I can't get that close to the birds... it's great that this wonderfully colorful parrot got so close to you. I love looking at the photos. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteDear greeting to you from Viola
Hello Viola. Thank you for your kind words. I don't always use my phone to take photos mostly use my camera's, sometimes it's necessary to use the phone, so lucky to have those parrots close and not too afraid of me.
DeleteEnjoyed these photos very much Margaret. The Green Rosella is a very pretty bird and I have meant to say what a great header to. The plover is a lovely photo too and wonderful they were so close you were able to use your phone.
ReplyDeleteThank you Denise. If I had of gone and obtained my camera's the birds would have been gone. They the parrots were not afraid so that made it easier to grab my phone and shoot.
DeleteLovely photographs, the birds are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank Jan.
DeleteIt is a beatiful bird and the young one is so cute. Great shots for a phone.
ReplyDeleteThank Diane, I was lucky using phone, they came out well I thought.
DeleteThe parrots are lovely but that plover is stunning! My g-daughter was frightened of them and used to call them the sqwarky birds. They were the only thing she was afraid of on the farm.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pauline. Well can understand your grand daughter being like that with plovers, as they often swoop and so on.
DeleteThe birds are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI especially love the colorful Green Rosella Parrot.
Hugs and blessings, Margaret
Thank you Veronica.
