Beach houses in the Tropics

Holiday 2017 in the tropics of Australia and we travelled to a few beach areas, these are some of the beach houses.

Peaceful is Airlie Beach, no where to park so taken as we drove past.
Below - you can see the leaves have been stripped of the trees on the hill in the cyclone that was in 2017.

    1. Some of the houses were beautiful but they were on the top side of the hill and as we were travelling these photos were taken when moving.
I too like the beach but do not sit on the sand unless in the shade.

  2. There's a few balconies I wouldn't mind sitting on for a lifetime or two, just watching the ocean.

  3. The beach houses look serene, but they must be very vulnerable to cyclones.

    1. Many are David, new standards these days for building houses in cyclone areas, so I expect that must help.

  4. Do they stand on stilts in case there is a water surge?

    1. Rosemary - I read once and can't recall why Queensland houses are built or were built on stilts. Can't find it on the internet either. However, houses being on stilts would certainly help with too much rain, also help with breeze if any which would make the house cooler in summer.

  5. Me gusta mucho la vista de la penúltima foto. Desde agosto no piso la playa, llevo ya tiempo sin salir de mi ciudad, ahora con el frío me apetece poco salir.

    1. When your weather warms up you might go to the beach again.
It's hard to believe that my photos were taken in our winter, and your winter is much colder :)

When I look at snow up your way it's rather interesting because we don't have snow where I live only a dusting on the mountains sometimes.

  8. Love the 'Queenslander' homes. Such a practical design. And how I would love to stand on some of those balconies.

    1. Be wonderful standing on the balconies or sitting looking at the sea or farm land. Don't know about carrying groceries up the stairs though.

  10. Sensible homes for the tropics.....plenty of space for the cooling breezes.

All HOMES now built in cyclone prone regions MUST be built to certain new cyclonic proof (????) standards. Also the cyclone season is now starting......lets hope the bloody things "peter out" when still out to sea.
    Good photos.

    1. I knew of these cyclone so called proof houses, let's hope they never have to try to see if they work against a cyclone.
      Thanks.

  11. Good to see decent sized eves, covered verandahs and lots of windows for cross ventilation. These have been stupidly left out of many modern house designs. Airlie Beach does look extremely peaceful, but what does the water harbour?

    1. Water harbour's not good things in many areas as you would know Andrew.
I suppose the houses of today have A/C where as back ages ago not everyone had it so that's why no cross breeze these days.

  14. High to capture the cooling breezes during the summers.

As shown in your pics below Cyclone Debbie sure had a lot of fun in the early part of last year! We even felt her effects down here where I am.

  16. Nice houses on the beach. But you have high tides and storms, maybe thats why the houses are of piles.
    I like these photos.

    1. They are built up for the view of the sea, and also to help the house keep cool in the hot summer days.
